As much as I like Adam Carolla, this sounds like Instant Failure to me...
EDIT: However, I didn't know he was kind of a car guy... so maybe there's some hope.
It looks like Adam Carolla has confirmed that he is part of the Top Gear America cast. I was disappointed when I first read it, but Adam is one of the few guys out there that has no interest in being politically correct, so that may be a good thing. Automotive journalist Dan Neil is also thought to be a part of the cast.

So I'm guessing they'll be using the "Coupling" formula, then? You know, where they take a funny, smart and entertaining BBC show, Americanize it ('cause as Americans we are apparently too dumb to figure out that a 'boot' is a trunk and a 'bonnet' is a hood), hype the livingout of it and then cancel it after 3 episodes when they realize no one is watching because they went overboard in making it 'family friendly' in an effort to appease the vocal minority and it now sucks.
I love Top Gear. But a show about driving really fast and doing stupid, irresponsible things with cars, no matter how funny, probably won't fly in the US with our "people will do anything they see on TV" and "won't somebody please think of the children" mentalities. Even my wife is horrified by the idea of what NBC will do to our favorite show...
Am I the only person in the world that watched and enjoyed both BBC Coupling and NBC Coupling?
I'd watch it... if Adam brings along some "Man Show" girls!
Can't you see it..... "And now it's time for girls jumping on Reasonably-Priced Cars!"
I never saw the Americanized version of Coupling, maybe I'll have to check it out on YouTube when I get home.
The thing I love about British comedy in general is just the different way they do it.
I didn't like the First Season of NBC's Office, especially compared to BBC's version. Now, I think it is very good on it's own merits.
I wouldn't hold my breath for NBC's version of Top Gear, but I will try to reserve judgment and try not to compare it to the original.

OK... I just got more excited about Adam Carolla on Top Gear. Listen to this pod cast and perhaps you will share my excitement. The car talk begins at 7:20 in when he is asked about hotrods, and goes on for more than 5 minutes.
Guess who's stupid in this country.... Almost everybody. Why do we love NASCAR and we have no audience for Formula One? A lot of dummies.
Interesting. I can do without all the stupid sounds and songs they toss in but if he has control of the content it should be good.
The issue will be if they test drive a Malibu and a Taurus. If it's all American available cars it could be boring. I still think the producers will "Americanize" it and it will turn out as a second rate copy of the real thing.
I can see it turning into another crappy Speed channel show, but I still have a glimmer of hope. I've never been a fan of Adam (even though I found the Man Show to be funny now and then), but... I dunno. We'll see.
