Thread: Another new top here too

Default Another new top here too

It seems transmissions and tops are popular replacement parts around here lately. After the storms, I broke down and bought my son a new top for his Birthday (which is 6 weeks away) because I thought it was cheaper than replacing the tape that was holding the old one together. Top arrived this weekend, and on Sunday and Monday after work, I installed it. I'll have to get some pics and post. I went for the budget, plastic non-zip window, which is perfect with the hard-dog roll bar. It looks very clean without the flaps around the window. Ausin also wanted to change colors to black, so the car is no longer black/tan, it's all black. Now he wants to replace the interior with black.

BTW, that top was TIGHT. It's starting to streach out now after 24 hours, but was like a drum last night.

    Cool!

You do realize that you are not supposed to put the top down for about 2-3 weeks after install right? You have to allow it to stretch out first. Yeah, mine was tight like a drum for 2 weeks. I didn't put the top down for at least 3 weeks and it's still fairly taut!

Cabrio world didn't have a non-zippered top with a rain rail, so I got mine from Miatamainia, It's a zipperless w/ plastic window and rainrail already installed for $289.00. I can't do glass and no point in using zippered, because the roll bar makes both difficult to use, so I got by with the econo roof. Looks great.

Install took me about 8 hours, would have been less but had to redo a couple of steps.

BTW, I've only lowered the top once to see how it all lined up. However it was super tight when closing. However I've notice it loosening up now with a thump test.
