Thread: Center exhaust outlet...

    Default Center exhaust outlet...

Anybody here ever done an exhaust setup with a center outlet just below the license plate? I had an idea to relocate/replace the stock muffler with a C5 Vette-style muffler (in and out on the same side), stick that over on the driver's side under the jack well, and poke the exhaust out of the center of the car (through a new bumper cut) - possibly leaving room to relocate the spare tire under the car... hmmm.

BTW, I'd fill the stock exhaust pipe cut in the bumper with either a fog light or a nice tow hook...

    Any thoughts?

I've been thinking about doing this myself for a while... but since my rear bumper is cut out for dual exhaust, I'd have to remove the center section between the cutouts to make the center one look right. I doubt it would look good in that situation...

There's only a couple of sources where you can find an uncut rear bumper.

I've seen a V8 Miata to autocrosses in Oklahoma that I believe has a center exhaust. It looked good. Sounded good, too, with the V8.

Elise Boy so does the Mini. It would look cool if you cut out the section from current hole to same side opposite the bumper and filled the space with a mesh. Have the single pipe(s) exit the mesh with a plate around the hole.

Yeah... I like your friend's twin pipe "shotgun" look - that's exactly what I had in mind. Any idea how the plumbing runs underneath? What kind of muffler?

Not crazy about his solution for the leftover gap, but I could figure something out. I like the full-width mesh idea... hmmmm.

It would not stand out as much on a black car.

Were would you put the trailer hitch? How would you get your race tires to the event?

Yep. The single pipe looked like a butt hole but the twin pipes, while not my preference, look OK.

Here are some pics of an old JDM piece from St. May called the shotgun. It is the cleanest I've seen and looks sweet.
