Thread: Good deal on Lenovo Thinkpad?

    Default Good deal on Lenovo Thinkpad?

    Saw on a few bargain websites I frequent that you can get a 14.1 or 15.4 widescreen T61 with the core 2 duo 2.1 processor, 120 GB HD, 1 GB RAM (with second empty slot for cheap DIY upgrade) for about $600-$700 depending on how it's configured after 10% off from Lenovo and 15% off from Fat Wallet. I was waiting for the 9" EEE PC but for 100 bucks more this seems like a lot more laptop. What do you guys think?

    If you want a cheap laptop, this sounds good to me. I have a T61 for work and I have been very happy with it. For me, the reason to get the EEEPC is for a cheap SMALL laptop.

    Thanks for the feedback, I'll order one soon.

    lenovo = the bomb.com

    They have the best, most reliable hardware of any computer I know of. They seem to last forever in the FEMA offices where I've seen bulk quantities of toshiba, dell, and gateway systematically in our offices.

    Just ordered a T61, total was 880 minus 15% rebate from fat wallet so about $750 total. I didn't know that Lenovo charges sales tax which kind of soured the deal right before I hit checkout. It was 816 plus about 60 something worth of tax FTL.

    I got a work issued T61 earlier this year. Very good laptop. Had an old T40 before that that was bullet proof for 4-5 years.

    Yep! I'm replacing my now dead T40, my gut feeling is that the onboard video chip popped out of the mobo which is quite common after a while but I didn't bother to try and fix it. I may try and solder it up and see if I can bring it back to life for a backup.

    How does the T61 compare to the T40? Do you think it's a big improvement?

    The T40 is a boat anchor compared to the T61.

    Really? Do you mean in physical weight or performance? I checked out the specs and it seems like they were both about 5 lbs (14.1 T40 vs 14.1 widescreen T61). I think my T40 is 1.8Ghz Centrino, 1gb ram.

    Yes. T61 is much thinner and runs much faster. My T40 didn't have much RAM in it (512mb IIRC), so that could have been part of the problem.
