My gf has a 1st gen and likes it but I just couldn't pull the trigger without the 3G, it defeats the purpose of the phone not having it.

True, I find that my Miata works for the racing I do but the Elise is faster and more fun

EDGE does work ok in most areas but I'm impatient.

I've played with an iPhone and it's pretty neat... what does the "3G" do for it? Does it make it not drop calls any more?

    But seriously... wtf is 3G?

3G is the third generation of cell phone standards. Read more here.

While the iPhone will be $200 less, AT&T will be charging $30/month for the data plan instead of $20/month. AT&T will also require a 2 year contract. So you save $200 upfront, but will pay $240 more over 2 years. More here.

So much for the big "savings."

    I still want one though!

In corporate America it will not displace the BlackBerry.

Not until they get the email security standards up to date at least.

Your statement made me think of the re-done Apple 1984 commercial of Hillary. LoL

Ever since my Blackberry Pearl proved to be unacceptably fragile, I have given up on high-dollar phones. I now use an old Nokia 3390, and when that stops working I will probably just buy a $20 unlocked phone from Target.

I've had a 1st gen Blackjack for a year, and I'm quite happy with it. Out of all the phones I've owned, it has been one of the better ones. I have no interest in paying three times more for Apple's latest overhyped piece of plastic, since it will be utterly obsolete in six months when they come out with the next gottahaveit toy.

You need to watch the keynote address (link below). With all the Enterprise support, built-in security, MS App support, Custom Apps, Push Technology, expansion to 70 countries, multi-language support and lower price this is going to change how we think of and use cell phones. Watch the video. It's long but very informative and amazing.

BTW, all the above changes will be available to ALL iPhone users with a free iPhone 2.0 update.

Because they're meh... The Crackberries interface is confusing and basically sucks.

I agree the first gen iPhone was a bit over-hyped and initially WAY over-priced but with the release of the 2.0 and especially the iPhone 3G GPS this phone is the real deal. I think it will become the standard for smart phones like the iPod is for personal media players. BTW, with Apple, you are looking at 12-18 month product cycles.

I'm planning on getting one when they come out.
