Thread: Hurricane Ike

    Default Hurricane Ike

Hope every has prepared. We are anticipating power outages in McKinney. We always seem to lose power up here. We have food that doesn't need to be cooked. Flash lights at the ready and I laid the basketball goal down and took care of anything else that might blow away.

    I'm doing.... nothing... lol.

Honestly everything I have is inside somewhere, except my cars. Hopefully they won't end up with a tree on top of them.

Work tomorrow should be interesting; they moved us up to a 9:15 start time so we can get out earlier (and we had all of Houston's truck freight today), but I'm still guessing that it will be storming like a sonofagun when I get out. I'll probably have to park by the road and ride some of it out.

I'm just glad we don't have a DC10 to load.

We're currently camping out in the bathtub with a mattress over us. I will try to keep you all updated on the damage as long as my laptop battery holds out. So far, I don't hear much outside...

I took care of this for you... I got my generator out and made sure it would start yesterday. Whenever I have my generator, we never loose power.

Whoa, I was checking the weather in Houston this morning on Weather Underground. Check out the wind chill temps!

I guess Wunderground needs to update their software to handle non-reports - Houston Hobby's temperature sensor (and most of their other weather sensors) went down a little after 2am, and Intercontinental lost theirs a little after 5am. I guess those 70+ knot gusts just before the sensors went down had something to do with it.

During Hurricane Juan, I worked security at Riverbend Nuclear plant.
I drove out to the weather station to check the wind.
I got a bit nervous when it was gone!

Oh well, I'm going to a wedding.

Meh - our complete hurricane preparedness plan is to make sure there is an umbrella in the CR-V when we go out to hear a friend's band play tonight.

Ive been outside half the day flying my kites in this dissapointing 'storm'. That's how much of a dork I am.

Edit:oh yea, I got ga last night for the same reason. Only put 20 bucks in since it was already up 20cents. SHouldof got more, it probably won't last the weekend though...

Starting to see some blue sky breaking through the clouds! It hardly rained over here in N. Ft. Worth, rain gauge shows less than 1/2".

Someone call jrj512 and let him know he can leave the panic tub.

We're on our way back, now. We ended up evacuating to Oklahoma City. They had a Red Cross camp setup for evacuees. It was just us and one other couple in a black Miata sporting Christmas Lights (in September?) and a giant wing.

The rain is now to down to a light drizzle after coming down pretty hard since about 10 this morning over here on the east side. I don't know how much rain we have gotten, but I know it is a heck of a lot more than the 1/2 an inch that PITA saw.

I was half disappointed and half glad about the results here in Grapevine... I don't think we got a gust over 30mph and it hasn't done much more than a light shower all day. I ended up cleaning my garage out since it was cool outside

I love big storms, but man, Houston and the surrounding area got NAILED so I can't say I was wishing for something more exciting

Still waiting on reports from Supraforums members down there. A lot of them stayed.

Ha Ha. Glad we didn't get anything but the possibility was there! Palestine got hit pretty hard.
