Thread: Drag Racing Event

    Default Drag Racing Event

Well, my work co-sponsored a drag racing event down near Temple, TX. It was at the Little River dragway in Hammond. It's a 1/4 mile strip, and most of the high hp 700+) cars were having issues with grip. I was running a 7500rpm rev-limiter, which was making me shift to 4th about 10ft before the traps, so we raised it to 7800 so I could clear the traps in 3d. I was using my 235/40/17 RA1s and only change I made to the suspnesion setup on the car was to put the rear shocks on full soft. I didn't even lower tire pressure.

    60ft - 2.1107
    330ft - 5.7235
    1/8mi ET - 8.7753
    1/8mi MPH - 80.50
    1/4 ET - 13.5139
    1/4 MPH - 102.35

This was the first run of the day for me.

    This is against a SRT-4.

    This is against a LS-swapped RX-7.

No, I did it to keep the weight over the rear wheels. I can only control the rebound on the Koni's, so I set it full soft to keep it from rebounding and taking the weight off the back tires. It worked very well, I dropped a full tenth on my 60ft times (from 2.2-2.3 range to 2.1). When I got those down to 2.1, we raised the limiter to 7800. I probably gained another tenth from not needing to shift to 4th right before the traps. We raised the boost 1-1.5psi at the same time and gained 5mph. I only made one pass after we made the changes, since they closed the lanes to do the bracket racing, but it was by far the fastest (13.8 was fastest on low boost and 7500 limiter).

I don't see how you only trapped 80 in the 1/8th but over 100 in the 1/4, it must be a top end car. 60 foot is not bad but could probably get in the 1.9's on a hard launch with the tires dropped in the low 20 lbs range.

Back in the day my 8 psi single cam turbo civic that made 176 whp, 173 wtq ran 8.52 @ 85 mph with a 1.8 60 foot on the stock open diff and some small drag radials.

Only thing I can think of is that I was doing 2 shifts in the first 1/8th and none in the final 1/8th. I doubt I could have gotten below 2.0 60ft, since most cars running DRs were fighting to get 1.9s, and people on full slicks were getting only 1.8s. Hell, even an STi was only cutting 1.9s.

Oh, and I am running 235-40-17 tires, which makes the gearing alot taller. That is how I am able to hit 102mph in 3d gear.

Ray, I've never been able to get below 2.1 in 60' on any of my Miata's, and I've heard many Miata drivers tell me I sould be in the high 1.9's. However, I have yet to witness or see time slips from a ~200 hp Miata doing that. just my

BTW, those numbers are better than my '98 LS-1 Trans Am with 2:73 gears could do. It's right up there with the T/A's that were running 3:24 gears. Good Job!

    Are you turbo'd or blown?

Greddy Turbo Kit. I am happy with the 2.1 60fts, and I was only looking to get into the 13s. This is still a road course car, not a drag car. I had to be there for work, so I figured I might as well find out what I can run.

There was one TA there, unknown mods, but definitely an exhaust (maybe Y-pipe dump) cause it was stupid loud. It was running low 14s, on DRs. I watched it lose to a red turbo Neon (not SRT4) running street tires, it also ran in the low 14s.
