Does your computer have video-in on your video card? XP Pro on my laptop came with Windows Movie Maker, which would probably work for software, but without a video-in on your video card, it may be kind of difficult.
Have a bunch of old sales videos at the World Headquarters. Most of the VHS are 5 to 15 minute tapes and low quality. I'd like to copy a few to a computer so we can archive a select few and pitch all these freaking VHS tapes, the VCR, and the old tube TV!
I know there are companies that can do this for us (Like Magma's) but I'd like to do this in house since I need to figure out what needs copied and what can just be pitched as I have time. I'd also like to keep with the TCB code and not spend much $$$ to make this dream come true.
Anyone got any recomendations??

Do you have a video camera that you can connect to your computer to download movies? Most have connections to record from external sources - like your VCR. VCR --> Video Camera --> computer.
I have a DVD recorder that can dub from a built in VHS player and vice versa.
Well, you have a few options, If you have a firewire port on your computer,
1)A stand-alone analog to digital converter is one option(I prefer this)
2)A camcorder with A/D conversion buit in(rare) then Windows MM will allow you to pull the video in.
3)Time out your tape and let me know what times on each tape you want(Price TBD)

Unless you have A LOT of time on your hands, I would go with option #3. My Sony mini DV camera does the A/D conversion as mentioned in option #2, so if you have one, you may want to check it out. I started converting VHS tapes of the kids to DVD with a VCR and a DVD recorder and it wasn't too bad, but uploading to a computer and then to DVD is a PIA.

If you are too cheap to buy a DVD recorder with RCA in, maybe someone will let you borrow theirs to test the quality? I would expect the results to be "good enough" given your low standards.
If you insist on going VHS->computer->DVD, you owe it to this board to YouTube the stuff.![]()
JUst a reminder, my companies prices are very reasonable, and if it is my pricing it is even better![]()
