Thread: Tech Session for Shock Absorbers

  1. #1

Default Tech Session for Shock Absorbers

Anybody up for a tech session on shock installation? I just ordered a new set of Bilsteins for my car. I have installed struts on an FWD before but never on anything with double a arm suspension like a Miata. Just show me how NOT to kill myself with shooting springs or a dropping car. I will do all the work.

I will buy pizza, beer and anything else anybody wants.

Sounds like a good time, If I am free I will help out. As I am sure TC will chime in, just don't let me kick you in the head

I might be game for this, depending on day/location.

It would be tight at my place. It would have to be in the driveway because I have a one car garage filled with 914. I also don't have a compressor or air tools.

You may want to replace your bump stops/boots while you're at it. If they are original, I'm sure they are crunchy.

It could be done in my shop if you don't mind the drive out. I have a compressor and air tools.

I would be happy to host the event in my shop. I'm on the west end of Fort Worth and have a lift and air tools. We could also do a brake change/bleed/upgrade tech session too. Let me know if you guys would be interested.

It's a '92 with 140K on it. I'm sure a lot of things down there are crunchy. The boots on my tie rods are torn too. I'm sure bushings are worn.

Count me in as part of the audience / stand-by labor pool / beverage committee if it is on one of my days off. I just ordered a set of shocks, myself, and it would be nice to see the installation done before I do it myself.

I would be in favor of doing shocks on two cars at the same time if we have a place with enough room.

Where is a good place to get the bump stops and boots? I am installing the HD Bilsteins that are included, I think, in the sport suspension package.

Stock boots have integrated bumpstops. If you don't care about staying stock, get the FCM bumpstops.

Sounds good if the time and date work out.

I have a brand new set of OEM bumps/boots for an NA. I'm never going to use them and I'll sell 'em cheap. Never even been out of the plastic.

Will these fit the HD Bilsteins?

What about Saturday, November 22 or Sunday November 23? That will be the weekend after the last autocross of the year and it should get everybody time to get parts together.

Who has the biggest garage? I don't object to a long drive unless anybody else does.

I'm good for either day, but don't have garage space. I usually do major work at the Auto Hobby Shop at NAS JRB, but I don't think that would work for most folks.

That date will work for me. I've got a 1500 sqft shop with a lift that I've offered for everyone to use. It's in west Ft. Worth off of I30 and Las Vegas Trail.
