Thread: DDE Server Error?

  1. #1

    Question DDE Server Error?

I've been having a problem with my work computer when I shut it down I am getting a DDE Server Error.

What the heck is a DDE Server Error, and is there an easy way to fix this issue or at least figure out why it giving me this error?

    TIA

Dynamic Data Exchange - Mostly used in Office, but can be used by just about any application.

This KB seems to be related, but not exactly the same issue:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892850/

    Also found this:

A few notes on the error messages “iexplore.exe is not responding” and/or “DDE server window is not responding”:

    • These error messages appear to be related. Sometimes, in similar circumstances, I have seen one, later the other.
    • Both are fairly common error messages.
    • Various reports in the news groups indicate that both messages are less likely to occur if the classic view of the start menu is adopted rather than the default contemporary view. This has also been my experience. (But don’t ask me why!)
    • In some cases the problem has been solved by using Steve Gibson’s dcombobulator to disable DCOM. (Steve’s web site URL is http//:www.grc.com). However, this did not work for me.
    • I have found that after installing Office XP SP3 both error messages are less likely to occur. (Another case of “go figure”?)
    • If you experience either of these error messages after copying and pasting downloaded web material into Word XP, whilst in the Word document press CTRL A, thenfollowed by CTRL pressed simultaneously with both Shift and F9. This removes the field codes. This has worked well for me.
    • If you are getting the error message, “DDE server window is not responding”, try disabling Microsoft Word as your email editor or viewer if this option has been chosen.

    And found this:

I have seen that other people have successfully resolved the issue by stopping and disabling the "Network DDE" and/or "Network DDE DSDM" services.

Good luck, this seems to be an error with many possible causes and few concrete fixes. Anyway, hope this helps.....
