That is why the rr's engines are diesel/electric traction motors. Torque !

I'd do that to the Miata in a heartbeat!
Statements like this are patently not true and are a pet peeve of mine whenever I hear them used to promote "green" technology. Nearly 90% of electricity generated in Texas comes from the burning of coal and natural gas, producing emissions of carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide. It is amazing to think there are actually people out there that think of electricity as some kind of mysterious magical clean power that emanates from the wall outlet at the clap of a hand. There's just no such thing as a free lunch....it did a quarter mile in less than 11.5 seconds and never put out one ounce of air pollution.
Electric cars as a way to reduce dependence on foreign oil is great and should be encouraged, but they won't cure global warming.
It's also very possible that if the car was in Sweetwater it would be 100% wind powered. However, since most of us don't live next to dams or giant windmills, over 90% of the electricity used in the U.S. comes from burning coal, natural gas, or nuclear power, all of which produce pollutants in one form or another.
Like I said, electric cars as a way to reduce dependence on foreign oil is great and should be encouraged, but they won't cure global warming. It is either hypocritical or ignorant to suggest that they will be free of environmental costs.
I'm wondering if the Kilocycle that goes 0 to 60 in two seconds comes with a diaper.
I've toyed with the idea of building an electric car. I, too, would like to start with a Miata, but maybe my first one will be a first gen Escort. My plans have never been as ambitious as the White Zombie.
And, there is a large wind farm generating electricity in western Cooke County.

Think how quick a point and shoot autocross car it would make. You might have to glue your hands to the steering wheel though.

The Koffemans autocrossed an electric car about three years ago. It sure was not the White Zombie.
But, they could run all of their runs, sometimes 12, without recharging. That was one of the things that caught my attention...12 sec run = 20 minutes charging. That's a lot of wind or water passing the blades.
