Yep I was thinking the same thing as Tailchaser have you checked the slave cylinder.
Any signs of fluid in the boot of the slave, have you flushed the fluid lately??
Could be a weak slave, like TC noted.
Even so, I'd ditch the Redline and just pop down to Autozone for some Mobil 1 75w90 gear oil. My experience with Redline was that it was great at first, but within 5k or so miles it was back to being notchy again. The Mobil 1 seemed to be more consistent over time.
It's also cheaper.![]()

Hey Champion1 have you changed out the shifter boots? Mine were gone when I changed them out there was little to nothing in the turret that was oil related!

if it turns out to be a tranny issue, cookson transmission in arlington can refresh it for $170 iirc. that is already out of the car. pm thorage327 (chris) for more info.

Have not researched clutch slaves or turret boots yet. Not sure what either of them are or what they do. I will look in the Haynes and see if I can figure it out. I am still a Miata rookie but I am trying to learn fast. Any help is always appreciated as I continue my learning curve.
Clutch slave is the little cylinder on the transmission bell housing that moves the clutch to/from the flywheel... (well, technically from... the to is done by the springs)
Your clutch is hydraulic... the pedal is connected to the clutch master cylinder... you push the pedal it pushes fluid out a tube and down to the slave cylinder which pushes out a little rod that pushes against the clutch fork and disengages your clutch.
If it is leaking then your clutch won't disengage right and that causes shifting issues.
The turret boots are the rubber boots that are on the shift lever under that nice looking shift boot that makes the gearshifter look pretty on your center console.
There is an inner and an outer boot. Outer boot is seen when you remove the center console. It keeps heat (and smells) from coming up from the bottom of the car. The inner boot keeps the oil in the gear shifter turret on the transmission.
When you change out your transmission fluid you should inspect the inner & outer shift boot and replace them if cracked or split. Change out the gear shift turret oil as well as the transmission oil. Use the same type in both.
Mobil-1 75w-90 gear oil works wonders in the Miata transmission and gear shifter.
While at it you should change the oil in the differential.
Just check the pointy board in the garage section for the Hakuna instructions as they have pictures on them!
And remember this: When changing tranny/differential fluids REMOVE THE FILL PLUG BEFORE YOU DRAIN THE THEM! Otherwise you may find that you can't remove the fill plug but you already drained it! Not a good thing to have happen.

What is considered the pointy board and where is the Garage section? I have not seen it anywhere.

And we call it the "pointy" board because they (the pointy board residents and moderators) will want you to get to the point quickly and succinctly without our usual ramble and tendency to go off on tangents. Although sammm is good about getting us to focus.
Wait..... What was the point to this thread???![]()

OK I did not realize that yall meant the Miata.net garage section. I thought that Metroplex had their own. Sorry for my brain fade. You have to remember I live in Mansfield. Enough said.
