I got to go
There are more pics at this linkie
Short version:
Lost216 and I headed out Jan 20 in his new RV. Two long days on the road and we were there when the gates opened on Thursday. Infield campground and Garage Passes made it an excellent trip. The GRM hospitality tent was awesome - free coffee and donuts every morning plus a bunch of cool reader's cars.
Practice and first round qualifying on Thursday, final qualifying and Koni Challenge on Friday, and the big race on Saturday and Sunday. Like the Houston GP, everybody was very friendly - if not knowledgeable. We asked crew members several times about various aspects of the race, rules, etc., and they hardly ever knew. I guess the managers keep up will all the details.
Did I stay awake for the whole race? No, but almost. I think I got about 3 hours of sleep before sunrise.
Things I learned:
- It gets cold in Fla
- A scanner is useless and an FM radio was the way to go
- Cable TV is the best way to keep up with the race.
- Stupid college kids get drunk and throw up in police cars.
- Just because your vest says 'Event Staff', you really don't have to know anything about what's going on!
- To get a vest, you have to be older than me.

Looks like you two had a romantic sunset walk along the beach.

best race in history, great weather
this is one to go to
crowds are not huge, prices are reasonable (compared to NASCAR, but then almost anything is), and if the weather sucks there are plenty of other places to go
and if you noticed, there were several autocrossers involved
for example, Randy Pobst was in the 26 Porsche, and part of his crew was Steve Holscher
talked to Jason Saini in the garage area too
I'll be there again next year
