Thread: I'm headed west... Laguna Seca here I come!

Default I'm headed west... Laguna Seca here I come!

Well, after my "minor" power steering fiasco (which wasn't that bad after all - no leaks yet), the car is ready to roll. I plan to head west early tomorrow morning and land in New Mexico in time for Happy Hour.

I'll be in Silver City for a week, and then a week in Marina del Rey - all work, no play, of course (this trip is the one reason I can't quit this damn job)... On Friday 3/20 I'm headed north from M.d.R to Monterey. That morning, in Santa Barbara (95 miles north), I plan to rendezvous with a group of M.net guys driving up from San Diego and other SoCal locales - looks like we'll have about 10-15 Miatas rolling up the PCH for the final stretch to Monterey. It should be fun!

I'll post back with anything of interest as I make my way out to The Big Event.

Thanks again to Gary and Wags for getting me hooked up with the P/S hose... I'll see you guys out there!

Yep be careful on the drive, I'm almost more worried about my drive out there than the actual track time. On the track pretty much only I can get myself hurt, but on the road it's the person behind you who decides whether or not to hit you. This is my first road trip since getting crunched in my 95M, does it show? Have a good trip and I'll see you out there.

After getting my Tein Flex installed today I am now almost ready for the track battle of the century that's gonna go down between me and Rick out there. It's gonna be a fight to the finish (that's a good spot for it to end). Apparently posting a picture from rocky 4 does not convey my sarcasm.

You really scare me! No track time anywhere and an attitude like that is gonna kill you at Laguna Seca.........

Like I told you earlier... take it easy out there and don't be a hero.

Hope you have a safe & fun trip! You should take pictures and post them now and then!! I sure could use a couple weeks off - taking a long road trip! Work or no work, sounds like a nice break from the daily grind!!

Well Merv I'm afraid I was being sarcastic, I am taking this very seriously and going to drive safely on the track and on the road out there. Any real advice is welcome and while I appreciate what is obviously genuine concern for my life and not just an insult , I really don't need to hear that I'm gonna kill myself without any kind of constructive criticism or perhaps a suggestion for avoiding death. If I do kill myself then great you can start an I told ya so thread but seeing as you don't know me at all let's give me the benefit of the doubt until then.

You guys can go ahead and post a link to alligator skin or whatever if you want but I'm not trying to pick a fight, I just don't think a comment like that should go unanswered.

You may want to review Merv's write up on Laguna Seca. It's good stuff!

Awww shit someone pissed off Merv.

Since I know both you guys (sort of)

    Merv,

He was just kidding but I can see how that comment might be read in a different way. Juano Tejano and I have talked about his first track experience and he is very humble and looking to learn and not be a hero. He and trickyrix are good buddies and it was just harmless banter. He realizes he is 2,000 miles from home and needs to drive it back home.

    John,

Merv has been racing Miatas longer than anyone I know and he takes it very seriously. He has strong opinions about things but is one of the greatest guys I know and one of the first Miata enthusiasts I met back in 1997. He meant no harm.

Now back to all the fun!

Thank you for vouching for me William, I don't question Merv's experience or anything like that as you said I have been very eager for advice, even advice that's hard to hear, I listen to it all and try and learn as much as I can from it. I have considered and learned from Merv's advice as well and would have done so whether he thought I was going to crash and burn or not.

So advice or opinions with reasoning are one thing, both of which Merv has given me in a PM so this disagreement is a non-issue and over, but I wanted to say publicly that when I think I am being stereotyped and judged prematurely I will respond to defend myself. Sorry to have distracted from the topic.
