It looked like about 30' from the cone to the fence. If you remove 20' for the virtual gate width, then you only have 10' to the fence. Hal!
Not me.
Course was too close to the fence. Driver should not have continued to drive the course at speed after hitting the fence.

All that concrete and they have to get that close to the fence?

Ah! Thank you! So there is no rule about proceeding on a course after going off course or hitting a wall/fence/retainer? Like in track - I think it was if all four wheels go off the track, you stay off the track until given clearance to go back to the pits? I know...I have a lot to learn.
Same car, same venue. I wonder if it was the same course designer.

They should really talk to Roger about course design.
No rule, just common sense. Most regions have a DQ rule for putting any wheels off at an AX.
Track rules are usually proceed back on track when clear, you hear a caution called on the radio, and/or after you see a yellow flag. That way the other drivers will know to look for you. Stay off the race line in case you are leaking. Proceed to hot pit to be checked out or to grid. Don't stay in one place if you go off and the grass is dry like it usually is here in TX. I saw a fire from dry grass build up around a front caliper.
Like most things stop for a second and think about what you are doing or about to do. Better yet think about what you would do if that happened to you.
