went to Iowa to play Autocross.
Depending on how long you plan on keeping the Miata, the newer one will depreciate quicker (and for bigger $) than the '99.
OK, so I traded in an old PT Cruiser turbo that no one on this board wanted. I went to the Town North Mazda with an offer to trade it in on a 2006 on their used car lot, and they accepted my offer. So now I have a new to me 2006 Copper Red 5 speed. I now have 2 Miatas and can't really (shouldn't) keep 2 Miatas when that extra interest and insurance money should be going into my savings...
Which one to keep?
1999: just hit 50k miles; black and tan, leather, Bose, nearly perfect. I just added a Racing Beat muffler; intend to go with header, CAI, wheels (Konig Rewinds?), maybe Voodoo, and suspension. Love this car.
2006: new to me. Intoxicating engine (power); just got 28mpg's driving a bit aggressively... Great stereo; Nice ride (almost too nice if that makes sense to anyone)... Warranty for 20k miles or about a year and a half.
I don't race or autocross. Either car will be a 2nd car. I intend to take a couple of months to decide which is more fun overall. I think after the mods I plan for the 99 it would be pretty entertaining and turn some heads.. For some reason I just had to experience the NC....

Keep the one that is the MOST comfortable to you. You said you do not race or autoX. Both are great cars, right? Comfort, comfort, comfort!! My 2 cents.

I really like the NC. I would take an NC over an NB.
NC all the way, must nicer/sophisticated platform plus the brakes kick ass.
VW Bug in running shoes

M Porcupine coupe
Crusty old e46 beater
Battery Powered appliance car
You know, you are right; the brakes feel much better. I hadn't really read that before, but I agree. The NC is more comfortable, and so far all the "non-Miata" people say the NC looks better. I still like the looks of the NB and think it is just as fun to drive, but in a different way...

From someone that is in a NA now I would choose the NB, the NB always seemed like just a little bit nicer version of my car, without losing the special feeling of the NAs chassis and lightness. I have only driven a stock automatic NC but it didn't appeal to me, somethings felt better like the brakes and how solid it felt through turns but it felt to me more like average car that's a little sporty instead of a sports car but the most important part of this sentence is that I've only driven the automatic. I have to say that the NC felt a little too soft and cushy and easy to drive, more like a passenger car than the go cart feel of the NA/NB. I'm sure you would have fun with both but I would take the 99.

Really? that's surprising to me, I haven't spent a long time with NBs but during the time I have they have seemed like an upgrade in every way with only a little extra weight.

I suggest keeping the one that you like and that is your deal. I have 6 cars & for me all of them are differant. Insurance is the big game & I suggest www.Hagerty.com insurance. Yor 99 could fall into better insurance rate plus your mileage shows its not daily driver. If your wife is driving the cars I would keep the one with ABS or make it no, no driver which are prefer. Good luck!
I've heard that before and I agree with it, but I think I would be willing to make the small sacrifice in raw pure roadster fun for the improvements (once I grow up and be an old fart mind you not anytime soon), but I don't feel the same way about the NC, it just felt too different and too much like a normal car.

Keep the nc..,
My Feelings:
Looks: NA, NC, NB
Comfort: NC, NB, NA
Power: NC, NB, NA
Handling: NC, NA (never driven an NB)
Result: Keep the NC or sell both and get an NA.
Ahh! What a wonderful problem to have to choose between two very good cars! I wish I have the same problem too!
If I were you I will keep the 99, not that I own two of them. I just can not stand the look of NC. Being a TCB, I can not justify the extra $$ for the improvement of the NC over NB. Of course, if you are the kind of "wine and cheese" type of Miata driver, you will happier with the NC.

How about trade in the mini & 06 for a 94-95 Viper with low miles. I just look @ 94 red Viper for $28k with 14k on was beyond perfect. The 94-95 Vipers were@ low 40's last year. Best of both worlds.
I drove the NB then I drove the NC. Then I drove the NB again. I bought the NB!
To me, the NC would only win out if it was a PRHT model. The NB felt more like the drivers car. I like the NB better than I liked my Mom's 91 NA. The trunk in the NB is much larger than the NA. Then again, trunk in the NC can hold a dead body. The horsepower is negligible between the NB-MSM and the NC.
As they say to each their own.

I kind of agree with this quote, and think the NC just takes it one step further; a better car than the NB, but the NB may have more of the "Miata character"...
Anyway, my plan is to drive them both for as long as it takes to figure out which one is more fun to drive. I'm having a blast in either one. I also have a vision for what I want the NB to be, and I think that would be a little more personal than a stock NC.
Thanks for all the input. I think I need to go for a ride in an NB with a header and CAI.
