Default Gummint forces GM & Chrysler out of NASCAR

In a move sure to spark outrage, the White House announced today that GM and Chrysler must cease participation in NASCAR at the end of the 2009 season if they hope to receive any additional financial aid from the government. Companies around the globe—Honda and Audi, to name two—have drawn down racing operations, and NASCAR itself has already felt the pinch in the form of reduced team spending. A complete withdrawal from America’s premier racing series is expected to save more than $250 million between GM and Chrysler, a substantial amount considering the drastic measures being implemented elsewhere.http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...ascar_car_news

I love how people seem to think that it is a good idea to force troubled banks and auto companies to cut their marketing. Yeah, that's going to help.

Altiain is first to the link! Or was it PS?

Although it wouldn't surprise me if this were for real.

Apparently, Car & Driver's prank was so believable that they have been inundated with responses by angry NASCAR fans. The "story" has been pulled from their site.

Definitely the best prank of 2009

I like the one Hot Rod magazine did last year. The designed a new AMC line of cars and said private investors were bringing the company back. Lots of hate mail was generated over that one. The story seemed so real until the very end of the article.
