    Hoosier FTW!

Yeesh - flipping tires after 10 runs? Cording tires after 21 runs? That's f***ing ridiculous. J-Fo and I used to get over 100 runs out of a set of V710s before cording them.

And I'm upset because I'll probably only get 700-800 track miles out of a set of R888s, compared to over 1300 track miles out of a set of RA-1s. Guess I should stop complaining.

Jim H is a bit aggressive :) But still that is like Mini Cooper S tire wear. I managed to get 90+ runs on my A6's in the Elise and they're not quite corded (although plenty dead). Going to try and squeeze out 40 more runs on my 4 year old A3S05's as well.

The problem is not 285's, Hoosiers on a Lotus or on a Miata. The problem is the new 255/35/18's.

I'm not the only one that has experienced it, Joe G, Ron B and edj have too.

Note toward the bottom of the thread that Chris from the Tire Rack is checking with Hoosier. We are all waiting for the results.

The 255's are a new tire for Hoosier this year and it's obvious that there's a problem. And it's too bad because they are the perfect size for a BS RX-8.

I believe there's a ASP Lotus Exige driver running them on a 18X10 wheel as well. I can check to see if he's seen the same results. If so it's probably pretty obvious the tire was designed wrong if all types of cars are killing them.

Are the tire manufacturers just getting too greedy? At a time like this, it seems they would want loyalty to their tires. Losing a little money now on a tire with longevity for their customers versus losing customers to another manufacturer with a better mouse trap. Sheesh, the only appreciable difference I heard, read or seen about the R888s is that they CAN be about 2 seconds faster than the RA1s. And that is for a very limited time. In a spec class, who cares?

    2 seconds is huge.

I would pay a lot to drop 2 seconds.

As Neal would say do you want to win or participate

I want my cake and to be able to eat it too.

Sheesh... why can't I be as fast on my $20 tires as ya'll on your fancy sticker hohos?

I do agree!! But in a spec class where the spec tire is predetemined, that would make all cars equal, right? Everybody having the SAME tire would make it the driver, ie., tire management, etc.

BUT...what would you think if your tire budget doubles, which it appears is happening in SM?

I agree if everybody is on the same tire then give me the cheaper/longer lasting tire.

I would like SM to keep/revert back to the 100,000 mile RA1s.

Me too.......... I'm racing ITS at TMS just so I can use my RA1's. Maybe I'll change my mind later on, as we learn more about the R888's.

note that a couple of years ago Hoosier had a similar problem with a batch of A6 in Z06 size

not to hijack this thread, but has anyone tried the Nitto NT01 for track day use?

I know it's not Spec Miata legal, but there is a 225 45 15 size and about the same price as R888
