Watched the 2 trailers and the graphics look pretty. But why does the racing look like a demolition derby?

ever played any racing game online??? that's all it is. even GT or Forza. i remember playing forza 2 online with a gt3 or s7 turbo just so that when i was brake checked by a player it wouldn't damage my motor.

Yes, I have, and I understand there is rubbing and bumping, but most of the trailer is cars T-boning each other and slamming into walls.

    Default Well, I bought it...

I bought NFS Shift on Monday evening, and have played it for a couple of hours. The car dynamics are pretty good (I've only driven a BMW 135i and a modified Porsche Cayman so far), and I like the damage modeling... well, at least it has [some] damage modeling, unlike GT3/4. If you t-bone someone, or go into a wall, your front is going to crumple, and while you can keep racing, you'll have a harder time seeing, and the car will wobble. OK, so it's not completely realistic, but at least you don't walk away unscathed. I do like how the car becomes "light" as you crest hills, and be careful with jerky steering or throttle inputs.

On the other hand, the tracks don't seem as "real" as those in GT3/4, and the interface is clearly for the gaming crowd (rather than the simulator folks). Lot's of glitz graphics and loud, metallic clangs and bangs to make you feel like you are at your local arcade. And you create your own driving style as you go, either becoming a "Precision" driver or an "Aggresive" driver. The game actually rewards you -- by increasing your Aggressive Driver status -- if you wreck people and bang into everyone on the track. Anyway, I'm progressing on the "Precision" path.

All-in-all so far, I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. Maybe 6 stars out of 10. It's fun enough, and there are some cool cars... you apparently can even get a Bugatti Veyron at some point in the game. But unless you are just jones-ing for some new car game, I'd save my money and wait for Forza 3 or [if it ever really comes out] GT5.

it's a rental for sure, the cars are more fun and the game feels better once you get to T3.

I can't get the game to run without crashing on my laptop. I've not had time to try it on my gaming rig but I've read that MANY people are having issues with it on the PC. PC gaming sucks.

I think the main thing they were trying to show was the in-car physics, which from what I heard are pretty good in the game. I've never been a NFS fan so I'm waiting for Forza 3. I've been playing more Forza2 recently doing career online races.

Why do I keep seeing posts that reference GT5 as a future event? I have GT5 Prologue at home. What am I missing?
