Thread: Looking to borrow a car trailer 9/7 - 9/13

Default Looking to borrow a car trailer 9/7 - 9/13

Brad and I are driving my car at the SCCA Solo Nationals this year in Lincoln, NE. Brad's daily driver is a Nissan Armada, so we wanted to trailer the car there. Does anyone have a car trailer that we could rent/borrow for this? I would rather avoid U-Haul because we would have to pay the entire week for something that we will only really use a few days.

Does U-Haul do one way rentals? Perhaps you can rent one in Dallas, drop it off in Lincoln then rent one to get the car back and return it in Dallas.

I have considered that, but I would rather avoid the hassle in Lincoln and concentrate on the event. But it is a possible solution.

One way would cost a lot more, because you are charged mileage. If you return it back where you got it from, you are charged about $29/day last I checked. Also, Friday to Monday before they open is considered one day.

Also check Ryder and some of the others out there. U-haul is generally the most expensive when I have looked.

I have one you could use if I ever figure out how to wire the trailer brakes. That is if it survives the trip to Oklahoma to pick up the Lincoln next week.

    Let me know.

question? What is the tow capacity of the Armada? A good car trailer is gonna weigh in around 1800 to 2000 lbs + the car.

If its not high enough U-Hual may refuse to rent one to you. Also there is a trailer place on Harry Hines that I beleive rents car trailers.

I know my Cherokee has a towing capacity of about 5,000 lbs. An Armada should be close to that.

I had to rent a U-Haul trailer to get the 99 home when I bought it. The first place I called wouldn't rent me one after they asked and I told them it was to haul a miata. they said that it didn't have enough clearance to get on the trailer or a dolly without causing damage. went to another location and when they asked told them I was hauling a chevy S-10 pickup . had no problems getting it onto or off of the trailer. YMMV.

I just got back from Oklahoma with the Lincoln on the trailer last night. I had no problems with it as long as I kept the speeds under 60 mph. Faster than that an the tail started wagging the dog.

The Lincoln is a big car, almost as big as the Cherokee. And no, U-Haul wouldn't let me do it with their trailer.

I have a 18' dove tail trailer with ramp extensions to get low profile cars on without tearing up the front end. I tow my Miata and Boxster with no problem. I would be willing to rent it during those dates

"Wagging" is usually the result of improper tongue weight. Eather too much or not enough. A little research will give you the recommended weight. I have found that not less than 50 lbs or more than 150 lbs works for me.

Last time I rented from them they started to pull that song and dance until I told them I was towing with a 1 ton Dodge Diesel. That shut em up.

Heh... last time I rented a trailer from U-Haul, I got to filling out the paper work and conversation went:

him: Sir, does the tow vehicle have a V8?
me: no, it's an inline 6.
him: We don't rent that trailer for tow vehicles with a V6.
    me: well, it's not a V6... I said it was an INLINE 6... it's a diesel.
him: still, we don't allow people to rent that trailer and pull it with a 6 cylinder tow vehicle...
me: could I speak with your manager...

Wingnut2u, I have some weekends off in early August, so Brad and I will hook up with you, arrange to see the trailer, and perhaps square everything away.

All the weight on this Lincoln is in the front because it is FWD. It was also almost too long for the trailer. I moved the car back on the trailer as far as I could to balance the load and even that was really not enough.
