Age has nothing to do with being able to put a bullet between your eyes. That's the great thing about the taser you never have to go "hands on" with a subject. When a subject is close enough that you have to wrestle with them all of the things on ur duty belt become accesible to them.

Asp, firearm, taser, pepper spray, ect can all be retrieved by a subject. Even an elderly one. Not to mention this lady looked like she was going to put up a fight before she was going to be put into handcuffs.

I may have done the same thing in the officer's situation.

There is actually an MP3 of the above but I can't find it right now.

She should have followed his instructions, she even dared him to tase her

(I know LEO's have a hard job, that doesn't clear then from criticism though. In this case, I think it's also a flawed policy.)

He couldn't handle her without a Taser.

I think it's great the LEO's have non-lethal tools at their disposal but they shouldn't be compliance devices.

Why didn't he just pistol whip her and be done about it? She is 4'11, would've been easier than pointing a taser. Then she wouldn't have tried to get back up.

The Gizmodo link wasn't 100% right. It was a Travis (Austin) County Constable, not the Sheriff's Dept. The Travis County Sheriff said she shouldn't have been tased.->http://www.statesman.com/search/cont...0611taser.html

*This should probably be in Gasbags.

EDIT/Addition: I don't condone the lady's actions. I don't condone fighting with LEO's on the side of the road. My main point is that tasers shouldn't be used as compliance devices on anybody.

Would you Tase Ghandi or a Monk for not moving? For not complying? For talking back?

Police should use appropriate force for the situation at all times, I don't think this was appropriate use of force.

It was Travis County chance are pretty good he would have shot her....

I think it is a good thing it will defiantly keep the blue hairs in line if they know Johny Law will speed up their pacemakers if they get lippy.

Back before the days of dash-mounted cameras, I got lippy with a State Trooper in the middle of nowhere and he cracked me upside the head with his nightstick. I learned my lesson, and I haven't mouthed off to a cop since.

Hopefully granny will learn her lesson too.

I was going to say that he should have just shot her in order to get her out of the gene pool, but by that age, she's probably already pee'd in it.

No matter what this guy did, the press was going to have a field day. When put in a position of having to use some kind of force on a old lady, then there is no right answer.

That cop looked like he was itching to use his taser. Just another thug in a uniform if you ask me.

I always got the impression that in Travis County, you're more likely to get assaulted or shot by a cop than a criminal.

They had the audio from that on KRLD last week. I think the officer did the right thing.

She would've put up a fight and what he did ensured the best outcome with the least risk to himself and her.

I think y'all are both thinking of Williamson County. They run quite the crooked ship up there.

No, I'm definitely thinking of Travis County. I lived in Austin for 4 1/2 years. APD was always in the news for shooting somebody or using excessive force while I was down there.

Other than that, I always felt safe there. Didn't have to worry about crooks and thugs in Austin the way I do in DFW, that's for sure.
