    Question Wacky Paint Question

I know I should know this, but .. .I don't . Call me stupid if you want, but please answer the question as well.

The previous owner of my lovely '95 thought they'd be nice and put a new nose on her, and paint it all real nice. But, the knuckleheads didn't scuff or prime the nose, so as you can imagine, the paint is flying off the nose in sheets. So, I thought, maybe next weekend I'll sand the nose down and repaint it. But then I figured, hell.. it's a small car. May as well fill in some of those door dings and stuff, and paint the whole car. it's so small, you could probably do the whole thing with 1 can of Testers Model Spraypaint, right???

But, in looking at my car, it has that rough rocker panel coating from just below mid-door down. How do you paint with that? Can I just scuff that, and paint over it? Or does it need to be ground off with some 24 grit discs? I just don't know. I've only done a little painting in my past, and never had to deal with this stuff.

Any help would be hugely appreciated!!!!

180 grit will take care of that area. Sand it down to the primerbase on that area of the car. The primer down there is a little bit different, and sticks much better than the other areas of the car. It has a rubbery (yet smooth) texture to it - think of a pencil eraser...

So the new paint won't have that orange peel look to it, but it will stick to the good primer.
