Your car does not have a clearcoat finish that is why the rags are turning green.
It's a normal occurrence early Miata's had single stage paint jobs, just be careful not to take off too much of that green paint.
So I washed the car with palmolive dish soap to prep the car for clay baring. I used turtle wax ICE kit, which seemed to work pretty well. It pulled a lot of junk off the paint. After wiping the car down the wife started to use some mcguires scratch x on the numerous scratches on the car (there are a lot of scratches and dings and some worse spots...). As she started to do that she noticed the cloth she was using was turing green, british racing green to be exact. She stopped using the mcguires and I decided to just go straight to waxing... the wax was taking the paint off too. So now I'm very confused and worried. Any idea whats going on here? Did I do something stupid or is the paint messed up?
Maybe this was a dumb idea but I tested the wax on a small part of the car and let it dry before wiping it off. The paint was shinny and smooth. I went ahead and did the whole car because I had just clayed it (which did not take paint off by the way) and didnt want to leave it unprotected. Bottom line is there are so many scratches and dings that it's not like the paint could get any worse but I'd like to know what's going on here.
Thanks

It's "cleaned" up now buts it's too late for pics. I'll take some in the morning. Sorry guys, took a while to do all that paint removal. :)
