Thread: Best Music Albums

    Default Best Music Albums

What do yo think are some of the best albums of all time?

To me, a great album means every song on the album must be good.
The album should be the type of album that can be listened to and enjoyed straight through and you never really get tired of hearing them.

Greatest Hits albums don't count. Compilations don't count

Some of the best albums for me are:

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
    Pink Floyd - The Wall
    Led Zeppelin - IV
    U2 - The Joshua Tree
    Depeche Mode - Violator
Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine
    The Killers - Hot Fuss
    ...and across the line.

    1996 Mazda Miata - R-Package (Eve-L)
    2012 Mazda CX-9 - Grand Touring (Dory)

    I am more old school:
    Creedance - Cosmos Factory
    Jimi Hendrix - Experience
    ZZ Top - Tres Hombres
I know I am going to catch it for these but:
    Leon Redbone - Double Time.
Willie Nelson - Red Headed Stranger

Off the top of my head. I know I'll kick myself later for one I forgot.

Not really older music but for me it's Underoath - Define the Great Line. Also Dark side of the Moon, Led Zepplin 4, Disraeli Gears by Cream, Only by the Night by Kings of Leon.

Not yet... I have only heard Know Your Enemy on the radio and it has yet to drive me to buy the album. Being that I have 4 other Green Day albums, I suspect I will get around to buying it one of these days.

I can remember seeing the Rattle and Hum movie on opening night in a sold out theater. I had gone with 10 or so friends and the theater was so packed that we ended up having to break in to groups of 2 and a few of the guys had to sit by themselves. It was a decent documentary and a pretty good album, but it never reached the bar set by The Joshua Tree for me.

Yeah, but the Joshua Tree is such a cliche for a best album, I wanted to highlight some of their other (still very good) work. I would also add Achtung Baby to the list.

    Oh, and one more:

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik

As Marilyn Manson said, for the most part, rock is dead.

The best albums of all time are well before 1980. Absolutely nothing has come out since then that can top The Beatles, Zeppelin, Floyd, Rolling Stones, etc, etc, etc...in terms of rock and roll.

OK, I'll add three albums not yet mentioned:

David & David--Boomtown (the best one-album wonder I can think of)
    Supertramp--Breakfast in America
    Elton John--Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

And one I cannot believe has been missed:

    Bob Marley--Legend
    Speed

    I'll add a few that haven't been mentioned -

    • The Cult - pick one, they all rock
    • Neal Young - Harvest (or any of his early stuff)
    • Pearl Jam - Ten
    • Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms
    • Live - Mental Jewelry
    • Toadies - Rubberneck

Ten is easily Pearl Jam's best record - I still love it.

I'm also a huge fan of Neil Young's Harvest Moon - kind of the spiritual successor to Harvest.

I hate to admit that I've never heard the Toadies' Rubberneck all the way through. Actually, I've never heard any of the songs except "Possum Kingdom" (ahem). Pretty sad for a Dallas native like me, eh?
