Sweet seats surpass spectations

I am usually skeptical whenever someone offers me free tickets to something, so when daughter #2 asked me if I wanted tickets to see Elvis Costello at Nokia, my expectations were low. I thought they were from one of her friends but it turns out they were courtesy of the country club she works at.

Imagine my surprise when I found that they were for one of the suites, with an open bar and buffet. The parking permit gave us access to a private elevator in the back that avoided the crowd in front. At that point, I didn't care if it was Hall & Oates on stage for the evening.

Costello provided variety, jumping from acoustical to electric guitar, mandolin, dobro; each presentation running the gamut from C&W to Johnny Cash to Rolling Stones to an Irish sounding Lord of the Dance tune, to a cajun style you might hear at a crawfish boil. In the old days the crowd would demand an encore by holding our lighters in the air. On this night the crowd held up their glowing iphones.

I overheard the folks sitting behind us guessing at his age before finally deciding that he must be around 49. I'll say this, he didn't sound bad for someone who has been playing for over three decades.
