    Default Caliper leak

Dad was driving his '92 Miata home from the casino yesterday and someone pulled out in front of him. He slammed on the brakes and the car made a hard left across the median and ended up in the bar ditch. He's OK but it turns out the right front brake caliper was leaking and had soaked the rotor. Should I try to rebuild the caliper or just order a new one? How hard is it to rebuild?

The fronts are not real hard to rebuild as long as the bore isn't scored or pitted. Just get a kit and replace all the rubber bits. Compressed air is a big help for getting the piston out of the bore.

    Default ....or....

for less headache on parts that are up to 17 years old, buy a "re-man" caliper from your auto parts store.

also both rotors turned, all new pads... this is life and death stuff( sorry for the drama) if you don't KNOW you can do it...don't....(ask me how I learned)

You know life is weird. The core charge was $10 more than the part, how does that work? Got it fixed thanks for the help.

    Congrats!

Although, when working on brake systems I have this urge to replace things on "both sides of the axle."

Be sure to flush the brake system with new fluid to help get rid of contaminants that can affect the calipers. Speed Bleeders really help a lot for that.
