Thread: Hi, All...

    Default Hi, All...

    Everyone:

My name is Chuck and I'm obviously new to this group. After reading a bit of the forums, it looks like there are a lot of great people here.

I have two Miatas, both red:

'93 B: Tokico blues and springs (package), slotted/drilled/vented rotors, stainless lines, Moss leather seats (black), north of 150k miles

'96: Factory tan leather, bone stock except for a Pioneer CD changer, ~60k miles.

I'm looking to get back into autocrossing this year and I stumbled across the dfwmiata group when looking for some information on tire/wheel fitment for CSP. Great find!

I used to spend a lot of time working on my '88 CRX in college, but I didn't really have time for it all when I had to kick start my career to prevent becoming a permanent fixture at my parent's place. I recently bought a house -- I see from the forum that this is happening for many -- in Frisco, and I finally have some space to work, so I've got my tools out and organized.

Anyway, I have some questions but I'll post 'em in the appropriate foums.

    Good to meet everyone!

    Chuck

    Welcome to the board, ccage.

You'll find plenty of fellow autocrossing addicts... err, enthusiasts on this board.

So which car are you planning on autocrossing, and what class are oyu shooting for?

    Welcome aboard.
Hmm what is decent? Are we talking about your decent or my decent? I'm just curious because I don't want to offend anyone else's decent...

Welcome to MME, from another south Oklahoma...er,ah,um... Frisco resident. Our first [local] autocross of the season is the North Texas S2000 Owners Club event in Mineral Wells on February 19th. NTS2KOC put on some of the best events around, so you'll be starting from the top!

I'm thinking I'll use the '93 and shoot for CSP. It looks like the car (though not me during the first year or more, I'll bet) can be locally competitive with it's current mods plus some wide wheels and soft tires. Looking through the '05 SCCA rules, it looks like I could do an intake and header, and some major weight reduction (remove top, remove A/C, remove stereo, lighter seats) -- but I don't really care to do that. So I guess if I wanted to be nationally competitive I'd have a problem.

But then again if I manage to somehow learn to be a nationally competitive driver, the add'l mods problem would be a high class problem indeed.

My (small) experience a long time ago told me that starting as a novice I'm more likely to get time out of myself than the car, and as far as weight reduction goes I'm more in need of it than the '93.

I do think I'm going to try and start out on good soft tires though, because I remember there being a massive difference in driver experience. Might as well learn on the real thing.

(PS: I'd love to discuss wheel/tire combos, but I'll post that in Autocross Tech & Technique as soon as I post this. If you have opinions and/or experience, please check out the other post.)

I'm just looking to get a good, full season next year, learn a lot, see some improvement, and enjoy it.

    Default Frisco Miatas?

What do your Frisco Miatas look like? I see one going in and out of Grayhawk (where I live) all the time.
