Thread: To many wrecks…

On the way to Hallett this year a dipshit in a truck decided that he had to go between my sister and I, to the point of running me into the grass. So I had to deal with 50mph in a 70, next to a semi for about 30 minutes. When the truck finally exited he then swerved left and right so i could not pass, then showed me his gun. I then passed on the shoulder and took it up to 140mph or whatever to get away from the dude. Totally random. People love to jack with the green car. They never jack with the ugly car, only the green one for some reason.

Right, I was always told that after you have exhausted all means of retreat, and you have to pull, you better pull the trigger when you do. Concealed means concealed untill it needs to be used. Gun waving and taunting will land you in jail and your CHL revoked if you're lucky...worse yet you will more than likely end up in a morgue.

This is just what I have heard of course, I haven't taken the class yet.

Been driving rush hour traffic to the state fair and back every day (both morning and afternoon) and the only problem I have is the pickups and suv's that like to ride on my butt when the traffic backs up at a snails pace.

Yup, you have to drive 100% defensive at ALL times in the little cars.
Any time traffic is around me, I am constantly scanning the cars to see what people are doing (texting, gabbing on the phone, shaving, eating breakfast, on and on and on........). Doing this has made a few "near misses" out of what could have been bad situations. You see the guy in the truck next to you glance at his passenger side mirror (with no signal), it can be a pretty good clue he is about to try and "mate" with your miata.

I think he was trying to force me into the truck in front....this was targeted and deliberate, he came up FAST. I flash my brake lights to tell him to get back and he angerly whips beside me, rolls down his window and shouts and spits in a complete rage "F-- you you pice of sh-- im going to f--ing KILL you motherf--ker youre f--king DEAD you son of a b-tch" over and over and over...then I notice a big semi-truck beside me and saw this gleam in his eye...I then realize what's about to happen and slam the brakes just as he barrels into my lane...he really tried to push me under the truck! The asshole really did this. Finally he was so mad that he floored his truck and almost rearended the guy then swerved so hard he almost lost control. I have no idea what would make this guy so mad, I was just driving in traffic minding my own business.

He was a skinny guy his 20's in a white GMC truck with an oakley sticker.

This was so bad it actually made up my mind about getting a CHL. What if I didn't have the means of retreating...this guy was in a rage that would have gotten him shot if I had the means and couldn't reatreat. But I have gotten in similar situations at least 5 times that I can count, I don't know what the deal is with some people. I need to carry the pistol in my car, but I don't want to get it stolen or hassled by the cops. I know it's legal but apparently cops don't like it...in a bad way, my buddy got pulled out and searched for declaring a pistol in the car without a CHL...with his toddler in the truck.

So CHL with a holster it is.

how about writing down his license plate and calling the police, just a thought?
I learned this the hard way.....

Take all of your valuables out of your car at night. This includes taking the mounting hardware off of your windshield or dash and hiding the power supplies. I lost over $ 1,000 to a thief with no hope of recovering my items and to top if off they smashed my window in the rain and my truck got soaked. Let my loss be your learning experience.

Unless you swap paint - which makes it a hit and run - the police wont do anything. And if you DO swap paint - they come out and talk to you but that's about it. BTDT - SUV jumps across all lanes to make an exit and side swipes me - minor damage but didn't stop. Wasn't in my Miata - was in my BOB (big old buick).

The police really don't do anything about road rage either. Nor do they do anything about dangerous situations (big truck flying down the road losing it's load all over the highway).

I was totally surprised to learn that they wrote a ticket to the guy who rearended me recently for following too close. He really wasn't following too close, last time I checked my mirror he was several car lengths behind me, but for some reason he thought traffic was moving and gased it and plowed in to me...so the following too close wasn't really accurate except if you count that he plowed in to me.

Traffic to cops is just an opportunity to write speeding tickets - they aren't out there for the victims of road rage unless a tragic wreck occurs, then it's your word against there's.

The cop that came out when the SUV side swipped me said "yeah, drivers are just more aggressive these days..." very matter of factly. Sounded to me like his opinion was this was typical and just the way it is.

You never know who is in car next to you. My friend's brother took a hammer and beat a guy that cut him off in traffic. A couple of weeks later he shot two truckers (one on 75 central and one at a gas station) and shot a 3rd trucker that survived. My friend's brother is now on deathrow in Huntsville. You really need to be careful when dealing with road rage drivers.

You'd be suprised at how much more effectively the police resond if you mention that you "think I saw a gun in his/her hand, that looked like they were pointing it towards me while they were cutting me off/trying to force me off the road." Of course, you could always be msitaken with tinted windows and all, but there's no crime in being a concerned motorist.

He swerved around and in front of somebody almost losing control and was quickly gone. Seems like he didn't want me getting his plate#. I tried to catch back up but would have had to drive like he was driving. Plus I didn't really want to be anywhere around him anyway. I figured he must have smoked some meth or PCP, that's about the only thing that I would think would turn someone into such a raging animal.

You know that's not a bad idea I have a hot-headed friend that got into a fight in a parkinglot, when the cops got there he knew he was looking at some jail time so he told them the guy pulled a gun on him, sure enough there was a 9mm, bunch of drugs under his seat, combined with multiple warrants.

Im sure someone acting like that in traffic has to have a history of violence anyway, with a plate number to cross reference might actually do some good towards getting the jack ass off the street.

Wish I could have gotten that guys plate number though, I was just glad I didn't end up under that trailer, because I know our cars, if lowered will actually fit under some trailers.

I saw the results of another crash today. It happened to a red NB when a black Lexus ran the red light at Greenville and Exchange Parkway in Allen. The driver of the NB is not on this board.

I'll post a photo when I get it processed.

It's pretty damned effective on the interstate highways to call 911 from your cell and report a drunk driver. Give the license number and direction of travel and within a few minutes the two tones will show up. Also, a word of advice from a truck driver. We are not out to get you unless you are driving slow in the fast lane, but there are assclowns driving rigs too. Never brake check a big rig, we don't have any. 120 ft to stop from 60 in a car, 550 ft for the truck. Be safe.

If this was the X state trooper guy George was the first person he shot. George was a drift buddy of mine. R.I.P. bud real sad story..... Leaving Triwerks shop at a redlight the guy just opened fire on his car... There was no conflict to cause this to happen the guy just shot him. The proceeded on his rampage. Some people should die a tortured death i feel instead of lethal injection after sitting on deathrow for 10years

I don't think it was the same incident. The first trucker he shot was driving southbound on 75 central. He was riding a motorcycle and unloaded his 9mm into the side of the cab of the truck. What is sad about the situation is that my friend and his family tried to get him committed to a mental institution a few months prior to the shootings. But, in TX it is very hard to get someone committed. I know my friend and his family feel terrible about what happened back in 1998. They did everything they could legally to prevent it.

Good point but the old standard for air brakes was 355 ft. 245 ft is the new requirement for a fully loaded truck. Typical test results are shorter but these are the legal requirements. They'll stop faster than a train but still an awful lot longer than even the worst car out there.

I am including reaction time and brake lag time in the 550 ft. distance since we have to react to an unexpected stop. 60mph is 88 fps and assuming a good reaction and decision time (driver paying attention and guessing correctly that he needs to stop hard) you need to add 60 to 80 feet to braking distance. Accident investigations show 500 ft+ from OH SHIT to stopped. On dry pavement and Who drives 60?
