Thread: Iphone App for lap times?

Default Iphone App for lap times?

Are there any semi-reliable applications for the Iphone 3G with GPS that can keep track of lap times? Don't need any fancy functions just a basic lap timer would be great.

the gps in the iphone sucks ass, i have been trying all year and every app i have does worse then a stop watch.

This is maybe the one with the most work done to it and has the most options. will be trying the 9.0+ version that just came out over the weekend at ecr but last time it was triggering my start stop on the straight before turn 11 because it was so close to the front straight where the line was that i set my marker at.

Thanks guys. I saw one that was created by MaxQData (Cantrell Motorsports Lap Timer)so hopefully that one will be decent.

Will take a look at PocketDyno as well. I thought that was more to calculate HP/straight line, didn't know it had a road course function.

Also read about one called Harry's Lap Timer on Rennlist, seems to be working for a few Porsche guys.

Most of the phone's internal GPS have too slow of a refresh rate (1HZ) to be accurate. Laptime could be off by 2 seconds and speed is off by even a larger amount. I saw 128mph in my RX-8 at MSR with the internal GPS in a Nokia N78!!!

You need at least a 5HZ GPS to get some more reliable laptime. But it's still off up to a second compares to timing lights. I think 10HZ is the minimum to get accurate, and that's what performance box uses I believe.

RaceChrono is awesome, easy to use, and even has free video data overlay software... oh wait, it only works with Windows phones.

I spent a few hours making a mount for my iphone so I could hit the trip on the stop watch...then realized that it won't work through gloves, lol.

I am using MaxQData on a Windows iPaq. I use a generic GPS mount with velcro on the iPaq and mount.
    M3 is always the answer.
