Thread: WTB: Cheap NA Track Rat Miata

Default WTB: Cheap NA Track Rat Miata

Need something that is in good mechanical condition, presentable cosmetic (interior and exterior) condition and clear title. Would really prefer a 1.8 Torsen car but probably out of my budget. PM me if you know of one, budget is $2,500 plus or minus depending on yr/condition/options and aftermarket parts. Good track parts such as Konis, Harddog Roll bar etc are welcome.

For $1000 more, I can put you in a 1992 Black and Tan. Let me know if you need pics.

Bob has one that looks like it might fit your criteria. (Koni's, Harddog)

Already been down that road, I have no way to go look at it on a weekday and he's too far to bring it to have BAM! inspect it for me. Too bad since it looks to be a nice car and I would likely buy it.

Miata is a disposable track car, Lotus is not (at least not to me, maybe someone rich like Ken O)

C'mon Joseph, plastic cars are recyclable, not disposable.

Since when did fiberglass become plastic?

Anyway, less talk, more finding me a cheap track car!

IIRC, most Fiberglass gelcoats these days are made with polyester resins. IIRC, polyester is technically considered a plastic.

Plus, my dad and all his wood boat collector friends refer to fiberglass boats as plastic, and he's real smart.

You might have a hard time finding a Torsen car that cheap. A Torsen car that runs well and has a half decent appearance can be parted out for around $3000. Earlier 1.6 cars are cheap though, but will require $1000 to upgrade the diff whether you to a 1.8 Torsen swap, or try to go lowbuck and scrounge an RX-7 diff and 1.8 Miata housing then rebuild it.

I hope to buy a couple Miatas for resale this weekend, a ratty '90 and a nice blue-tan '94 with a Torsen and rollbar.

Only half wishing for a Torsen car realistically would be happy with a 1.6 Viscous or even a 1.6 open diff with plans to upgrade later. Mainly just want a car in solid mechanical condition with proper maintenance and decent cosmetics.

Unfortunately I don't think I was in the market at that time. Oh well, there will be more deals.

goofygrin: that is the car I am selling, and I posted it to this forum also (http://www.dfwmiata.com/showthread.p...as%29&p=200069)

CosmosMpower: I am going to get some photos of it in the morning, it is in clean shape, with the exception of the paint. Shoot me an email at [email protected] and I will send the photos to you directly, in the morning.
