Thread: New, unpatched Windows flaw

  1. #1

    Default New, unpatched Windows flaw

    URG...

This allows someone to do privilege escalation on the system and affects every 32-bit system from NT through Windows 7.

Read more about it here: http://www.h-online.com/security/new...te-908917.html

To do a workaround on Windows XP, copy this text, paste it into Notepad, save it with the name fix.reg, then double click to import it into the system registry:

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\AppCompat]
    "VDMDisallowed"=dword:00000001
    Enjoy!

Yeah, this isnt the only forum to do that. Not sure why, but when I put it in the quote there is no space there... and when I edit it there is no space there... but the forum shows a space.

Maybe 4 wheels aren't so bad after all... wickett.org
It only goes to show when people can no longer discriminate on the grounds of race, religion, or sexual orientation, they can improvise and still find someone to hate. - Dave Moulton

Patches are available from windows update. Already downloaded them and released them to all our desktops at work.

    Thanks TC!

Hudson, Yeah, this is a different issue. If you find the registry hacks for Vista or Win7 to mitigate this issue, please post them here.

I had that same issue. I tried to fix it about 5 times. Then I did BOLD and it worked

I was feeling kind of retarded for telling you about your space when it kept popping up with a space for me as well....

I think there's a maximum word length in the vBulletin code... just put stuff like that in [CODE][/CODE] tags...

I guess I should have read the text instead of just assuming. Most of our end users aren't that sophisticated and those that are already have admin rights on their desktops anyway.
