Thread: Power Steering Fluid and Clean-Up

Default Power Steering Fluid and Clean-Up

So, at the BMW AX on Saturday, the PS pressure hose connection on top of the pump developed a significant leak. The fluid sprayed the engine compartment on the driver's side pretty good. I have 2 questions:
    1. Owners manual says to use DexronII ATF, which I can't find anywhere- is DexronIII a suitable replacement?
    2. What's the best product to use to degrease the engine compartment? Would a simple detergent be OK, or should I try engine degreaser?
What's left of a '96 Miata with stock clutch.
My car exceeds my driving ability. That's the only possible explanation.

    1. ATF? In the past I've bought plain'ol Power Steering Fluid...maybe I should re-think that.
    2. Try some Simple Green to cut thru and clean-up the fluid.

According to Chevron, Dexron III is a suitable replacment for Dexron II and Dexron IIE.
