True. My mom and dad's miata was built in Oct of 89 according to the VIN sticker on the door jamb.

The first ones were built in 1989, but they were all sold as 1990 models.

So if they have the 20th birthday in 2009, and the car was introduced in 1989 as a 1990, and they had a party in 2010, when can I retire?

You have to take your age multiply by 3 divide by Pi, then take the age of your miata and add it to that number....................or something.
