Yea disconnect the battery and then unbolt it from the fuse block.

the main relay from the main fuse box. I want to check it with the meter, but it won't just pull out. Do i need to remove the bolt directly underneath it closest to the fender.
anything I need to be aware of??

thanks again.
I am not sure it is blown...I am still having that fan issue....and I borrowed a meter from a friend...and...well...I don't really know what the hell I am doing....
so..I was just gonna check that fuse and make sure it still worked. I read somewhere that it could be stuck open and that could be the problem. (?)
does any of that make sense?
If you don't know what you are doing your going to hurt yourself or the car.
Did you replace the fan yet??
Ya really don't need a meter to spot a blown fuse.
no. I put the meter on the harness...and it moved..but didn't drop like it is supposed to. (or so I have read). And, I was just going to check the fuse to be sure it isn't that before I buy a new fan motor and replace that.
I still keep hearing that loud "clicking" when I touch the ftn(?) and the grnd circuits from the diagnostic box. (the clicking is coming from the main fuse box).
I have to say though, I am having the time of my life with this thing.
Should have bought this thing a long time ago.
Did you check and see if you were getting voltage at the fan?

I took the meter, put the probes into the lines that come to the fan...(the car was off), and the ohms meter moved...but only about half way. And then, to make sure I was doing it right, I took the meter, put the probes on a AA battery, pos/pos and neg/neg....and the needle went all the way over.
Isn't that the right way to test it?
does any of that make sense?
That doesn't sound like the way I'd test it but hey it does sound like fun!
You need to check for voltage at the plug at the fan with the jumper in place. Do you get around 12V?
and, truth be told, I am really hoping it is something else before I commit the $170 for a new motor. I am already out for the thermoswitch, thermostat, and fan relay. I need to be really sure this is the problem before I go that route.
thanks for your help.
ok..the wire that goes into the fan is under the motor, but from what I can tell it comes up, clips into another set of wires, and they all go to the main wiring bunch.
now, when you say check, do you mean to get under and check from where the wire meets the motor directly, or can I check the wires that come up to the top?
also, what is a "jumper"...?
not sure about voltage...going to have to read more on electric tonight. The dude at oreilly's just told me to check to make sure the needle went to zero to show there was no resistance. That meant the circuit was good. (??) that is why i did the aa battery test...and also just touched the +/- to each other..to make sure the meter was working.
On the fan shot Mario an e-mail - http://www.dfwmiata.com/showthread.p...ghlight=Heaven
I can't help you much with the meter I know how I have done it in the past but not sure how to explain it on the interweb.
just did.
thanks for all your help.
also, I really wanted to go down and ride the 3 sisters this weekend, but very hesitant till I get the radiator fan working in this heat. Although it doesn't start running hot till I just sit and let it idle, I am not sure I should put her thru that.
thoughts?
I would not drive it any great distance until you get it fixed. Overheating a Miata can kill a Miata.
Ok ran to the garage here is how I would check to see if your fan is getting power.
Find the plug for the fan.
Unplug the connector
Check voltage at the plug end that leads back to the car.
Now hook up the jumper and see if you get around 12V.

Not to add another way to test anything to this thread, but can't you just find someone that has a known-good fan and jump their connector to yours? If their fan works when it should, you know yours is beat - replace it. If their fan does not work, your fan is probably not the problem (could be as well, but that would not be your main issue).
First of all....Thanks for all the help...esp. the pics POS!
This is what I did.
However, I do not understand what you mean by "jumper"?
This is set up with the car turned off. The needle didn't move.
Thanks again.
