But I won't win in X!!
Really, going to run in STR and hope for more entrants as the season progresses and everyone sees how great STR is.

I'll be there with Jason and Melinda McCall as co-drivers! Gonna be WAY HOT by 3rd runs...
Sorry for the delay today guys. My luck as been low, first the motor let go in the black car, now this with the back-up. I hear crap comes in three's, so I'm gonna go mess with a Sasquach (perhaps Ken O) and just get it over with..
All I heard was a loud bang and the front dropped a bit (already pretty low with the 13's). Thought I popped a tire, then out of the corner of my eye I see my wheel passing me. Then my thoughts turned to "crap, don't be that guy that forgets to torque his wheels.." until I saw that there was no center on the wheel and I actually felt better
Amazingly, the car suffered zero collateral damage. Rode on the lca and the rotor (or anything else) never touched the ground.
Big thanks to the safety crew, Brad, Jen, Peter and Hal were there quickly and their only thoughts were for my well being. The TMS crew did a great job and took care not to inflict any additional damage during the hookup and tow back to paddock. Thanks also to Loren for use of the donut and to Doug for swapping it out (I was getting a bit dizzy, part heat and part stress I guess).
Again, I apologize for delaying the scene for so long in the heat.
Ken O- can I haz ur avatar..
Edit: Now that I have had the chance to reflect in air conditioned comfort, this is actually all SCCA's fault. I had a re-run after my first run, and at that time I specifically asked the grid worker and I believe the starter (Samm and POS) to move me to the fastest run group, because I was having difficulty driving flat out (that's how I drive..). Both ignored my requests and, well, you know the rest.![]()

Me too.
I took my oil cooler off this week to clean out all the debris. When I hooked it back up I did not see that one of the lines was touching a pulley. It didn't take long for that pulley to cut a hole in the line.
Result: $140 tow home, $200 for the oil line.
M3 is always the answer.
Dan
Glad you are OK and got home OK.
Something I never really thought of till recently but I've learned that wheels have a life cycle. Just X amount of flexing before failure. Throw away the other three and get something else. Or return to manufacturer for X Raying or other professional checking.
I've talked to several successful Spec Miata racers, and when one wheel cracks, the other 3 follow in short order. The fast guys inspect wheels closely after each race, and if any issue, throw them all away.
Expensive yes, worth it yes.
Oh and some black humor. Several of us on the Tech crew were pointing fingers at each other as to who teched you. No one would admit it, so we decided it had to be the Mod driver tech guy (who wasn't there to defend himself).
Stuff happens sometimes.

I warned you about trying to drive flat out! You track-junky guys never learn!Originally Posted by SixAce
Sorry it happened, but glad it was relatively minor incident for you. (We need pics of the carnage BTW)
It really enjoyed the course today. Congrats to all the trophy winners!
Drove home fine w/ac blasting...
Agreed. When I bought these used (2 yrs now?) I promptly sent them to Keiser to have them re-furbed and expanded from 8" to 9", all new bolts etc...All of them will be going back for new centers (think I'll stick with alum this time tho). I have nothing but praise for Keiser. Love their wheels and they are great to work with.
I'll never expose the tech person (Steve E.) cause he could have never caught it. The other three "look" fine as well, but off they go..
Stuff does happen out there. Glad no one was hurt. I'm lucky it happend at the bus lot and not Hallett, TWS, ECR, MSR-C, H2R etc. Again, the crew was awesome. I'll try and get a pic of the carnage for those that didn't see it.
+1 on the great couse. Bummed that I only got 2 runs tho. Congrats to the winners.
Thanks everyone! Had a blast today. The course was great!
SixAce and Ken O -- glad you got your mechanicals taken care of.
That slays me -- Everyone here at work thinks I am nuts (more than usual) for sitting in my corner laughing uncontrollably.Edit: Now that I have had the chance to reflect in air conditioned comfort, this is actually all SCCA's fault. SixAce -- Good job blaming POS & Sammm. I wondered if you got a bill from the TMS crew for the towing or if SCCA pays for that everytime we rent the lot.
Glad nobody was hurt and the only damage was to the wheel.
Here are a few pics of SixAce's busted wheel.
