Thanks for the reminder... I've set my DVR. I'll give it a chance and see if it's good.

My DVR is also set. I saw another clip from the show that I found pretty funny. The guys wanted to have a drifting competition, but felt that Tanner had an unfair advantage. To even the playing field, they decided that Tanner would teach someone of their choice to drift and that person would take his place in the competition. Their choice? A blind comedian.

That debuts on History at 9c tonight.

    ... oops ... didn't read far enough.

I'll give it a B-. Not the greatest, but has potential IMHO.

The content was there, but the hosts need to time slip into their roles. They are way too stiff, right now.

It wasn't great, but it was better than I expected. With enough effort and time, maybe they can turn Norma Jeane into Marilyn.

If you were as slow as me, you wouldn't be afraid either.

I was surprised to find that Tanner's voice overs bugged me. The moment I enjoyed most was Adam Ferrara driving the Lambo in the highspeed run, with pure fear in his eyes has he muttered F**K with each shift. I look forward to them all getting more comfortable with the show and each other.

It sucked. It was the b-team in all aspects. It tried to be like the original without defining anything on it's own or being original in any way. The talent was flat, the camera was jittery and too vignetted, the editing had more jump cuts, and the cars weren't given enough face time. It really looked like a poor copy of the original with zero attitude or coolness.

I thought it was ok. Certainly not as good as the original, but as far as other tv shows I would currently watch on tv it makes the list.

I'd say it was just OK. I honestly can't believe how lame it was to watch them try and outrun an attack helicopter in a Viper. They have a LONG way to go before this is half as entertaining as the original.

I'd rather watch Antiques Roadshow for 18 straight hours.

    wow that was rough.

THe first season of Top Gear was rough too... they've had like 8 seasons to get it right... so I think we need to temper our expectations.

That said, the dude with the mole is annoying as hell. I think I'd rather have had a professional actor like Adam Carolla on the show.

It was better than I thought it would be, but far from great. They seemed pretty stiff and uncomfortable. And none of them seems to be genuinely excited to be hosting the show. One glaring weakness is that Tanner seems to be the only "car guy" among the three. So it's not really a show by car guys for car guys.
And I thought the Buzz Aldrin segment was extremely weak. Poor interview.

Ferarra's abject terror on the standing mile was pretty awesome; the Cobra segment was pretty weak; the Aldrin interview was pretty bad, and they've got to adjust the camera location for the bigstar/littlecar segment; and the three of them don't have much chemistry yet.

But give it time... there aren't many shows that are good right from the start. This one seemed like it had potential to at least be decent. It'll never match the original, but it could be good.

And besides, what else are you going to watch, "Who Wants to Marry a Retarded Floor Lamp"?

I prefer to watch "My retarded floor lamp was pregnant and did not know it". Must have been the prequel to your show.

I do want the show to work, and hopefully they get better. I'll bet the Stig is Paul Tracy, Tanner's soulmate from StuperCar Challenge. I guess car shows are like sex, better to have bad sex than no sex.

I give it a barely passing due to it was a first episode and no time for chemistry yet between the hosts. However I am not expecting much improvement none of the hosts seemed to have strong personalities such as the old arrogant one, the eccentric brainy one, the young perky one. Production values and artistic expression seemed on par with something from GM (mini vans not vettes) not Aston Martin. More reality TVish than cinematic. I really don't think they will be able to make it work in the US due to our strongly litigious and puritanic culture. Just can't imagine this show taking the risks and putting themselves out there for the sake of art. I'll watch a few more and hope I am wrong.

    meh...

Had low expectations and they met them. We'll see what happens. I agree that Top Gear can't be done in America unless it's Clarkson, May and Hammond coming over here to make fun of us. I hope it gets better and broadens American car guys to something besides driving in circles and straight lines.
