Thread: My new mini track cam

  1. #1

Default My new mini track cam

I saw a thread about this camera on MiataTurbo.net and the video looked pretty damn good, so ordered one just for the hell of it.

I got it yesterday and decided to play with it today and film a cruise around the hood. My temporary half-ass mount was a little square of velcro on the gauge hood. It's far easier to use than my GoPro, way less bulky, and both the sound and picture are sharper.

Not bad for $30, eh? That includes shipping, a 4GB mini-SD memory card, and an SD adapter.

    Pic of the camera:

    Video sample. It's 720 x 480 and 30 frames/sec, IIRC.

And here's a useful link for more info.

When you go get your card make sure it is at least a Class 4 memory card, they cost a bit more but are worth it, it eliminates the weird "warble" effect and skipped frames and whatnot. Me and a guy at work got these things and they are pretty awesome. Kind of a narrow field of view but over all great video quality from something that is just a few ounces in weight and less than 40 dollars invested. I can stick it anywhere with some velcro and use it. Top of my motorcycle helmet on top of the gauge cluster ect. even mounted it straight to the fairing of the bike.

Anyone know of any programs that will let you edit the footage. I need to be able to flip the image and such depending on how I mount it and nothing I have on my windows based laptop (Windows movie maker) will allow me to edit the video in it's format.

Looks like a trip to Fry's is in my very near future. Do you know if this thing will take a bigger card? That one clip I shot was something like 315MB, so I'll probably have to dump it at some point if I'm shooting multiple sessions at Hallett. Maybe I'll just take my laptop to the track...

FWIW, the software that came with my Canon Powershot camera has a decent video editor. Nothing fancy, but you can trim footage, add text, and I'm 99% sure you can flip the image. Of course, I can't seem to find that CD right now, otherwise I'd run you a copy.

I'm running an 8gb one right now in mine and it works fine. I recoreded a video driving from Saginaw to Fort Worth and the whole trip took up about 1.7 gigs on the card. Most people over on the sport-touring.net forum are running 4 gb cards in them which is what I looked for but the base exchange only had 8gb class 4 cards the other cards were all class 2.

The dude's on vacation from today until Sept. 8th. I'll forget about it by then. Looks like a cool little camera.

Little footage from my ride home today. Still need to move the cam a little further back on my helmet too much road in the view. That's one bad thing about this camera is no instant feed back on where it's pointed you just kinda have to guess so it takes a little trial and error. I suggest going to the HD setting when viewing the video as on 320 you loose a lot of the quality.

Sound quality seems to be pretty decent. Not bad at all.
I use to worry about money; but then realized I don't HAVE anything to worry about.
