Default Smartphones and youtube have forever changed the concert experience

Last night the wife took me to the Green Day concert at Superpages. First, let me say that out of 100's of concerts I have attended, I can not recall a better one. Green Day played for a solid 3 hours, playing every hit they have ever had, almost every song from the last 2 albums, and even 2 separate 10 minute medleys of their favorites by everyone from the Beatles to GnR to Black Sabbath to Tom Petty. I will be looking forward to the next time they come to town.

But to my point... All concert long, there were 100's of people holding their spartphones in the air, recording videos. When I woke up this morning, I searched "green day dallas" on youtube and found 33 videos already posted in the last 24hrs. I am sure that with time one could piece together the entire concert from youtube clips. Remember the days when you could go to jail for stuff like that?

    Some videos from the concert:

I think there is something with youtube that makes embedded videos not work for a while if they are new.

You know, the real irony is that now when people want to see music videos, they go to youtube. I read something the other day that said some of the most popular and most searched videos on youtube are music videos. I remember way back in the old days when MTV actually played music videos. Now they are just a venue for creating 'reality TV stars' that should be poster children for birth control.

It's true. I went and saw Ween last weekend at HOB, and there were more smartphones being held up than lighters. On my way out I saw a sign that said cameras and video recording devices were "strictly prohibited." Sounds pretty out of date now.
Oh, well I've got two sevens, and two sevens beats a frush.

Watching live music taken from a real video camera and professional sound system is something I don't enjoy seeing. Something recorded on the crappy lense and microphone of even the best smartphone is something that sounds down right painful to watch.
