    Default 2011 TxMC Schedule

    http://www.supermiata.com/forum/showthread.php?t=68
this is just a heads up on the first half of the 2011 schedule. we'll be taking a break in the middle of summer before finishing up the season. i'm still waiting on a few of the tracks to finalize the dates on the second half.

    Jan. 29th MSR Houston (NASA)
    Mar. 12th MSR Cresson (NASA)
Apr. 30th Texas World Speedway (NASA)
Jun. 18th Harris Hill Road (H2R)
    july (pending)
    Aug. (summer break)
Sep. (no event, miata's @ hallett)
Let's try to get a few of you guys from the DFW crew to come out and compete this year. It's a great opportunity to discover new tracks, make new friends and really work on driving. Going out and hunting for "tenths" is great, there is no substitute.

We have a ton of DFW track crew members, but only 4-regulars...are you denying yourself liberty by not competing? Look out for a couple "open track days" too.

Willing to let M3s play this year or too scared?
    M3 is always the answer.

Alright - cuz just March and April appearances for me would make a short season campaign. Houston and Austin are out for me. Well, maybe not H2R.
I use to worry about money; but then realized I don't HAVE anything to worry about.

If no one (NASA) gives me any crap about my stock roll bar I'll gladly relieve NC Eunos of his Street title.

Or at least make him earn it.

To earn it just show up. Thats what takes to be a street class champion! ...and no NASA will give you no problems, they gave me none.

About $300 for the weekend for track fees. Plus other costs, fuel, food, hotel, tires,etc...

"We" are only running 1-day, so it's just $185 to run on Saturday plus $10 for TXMC activities which are small and cover cheap trophies for the winners and little things along the year. For the events where we break-away from the NASA schedule I predict cheaper pricing; the HHR event will be stand-alone with only Miatas. I'm toying with the idea of running the TT series with NASA but we'll see if money permits such things.

Are there any specific reasons why some of you guys are interested and not competing? We're trying to get more participation and not really sure why we have such a large track-Miata "crew" here yet no one is participating.

Time and money would have to be my first guess.

Many of the track guys (like your brother-in-law) are members at MSRC, and I suspect they have a hard time justifying spending money to go to another track when they don't always get their money's worth from their MSR membership dues.

I'd guess $$ and travel time are big concerns, as that's my biggest reservation, especially since it sounds like you need to do at least 6 or 7 events to be in the running for the series. I'd like to participate, but this seems liek its probably beyond what I can commit to.

That is one event out of many.

I fear this one variable that we can't seem to get around. I enjoyed running new tracks more than being competitive on the season; MSR is an awesome [pair of] track[s] but there has to be some desire to branch out and get get the thrill of a new track again. TWS is a great example, you feel like you're running baby leMans. We drop two events to help with the cost of attending each event. I'm sure we can work-out hotel sharing amongst ourselves if anyone is interested.

I begged and pleaded with the group to talk to the Maitas at Hallett people about a joint venture in September but it fell on deaf ears of the south Texas crew due to the 10-hour commute.

Hey I can see it sounding pricey but if you autocross every week at 25 bucks a pop there's 200 every two months. I can't afford both so that's why I track only. I try to get out every couple of months and this TXMC is set up pretty good for that. 2010 I didn't see as much seat time as 09 and it showed in Sept at Hallett with all the damn spins I had. Including the M@H in Sept and the TDR@? this spring, I'm planning on getting to the track at least eight times for 2011, more if I can find a member who has guest priviledges.

Has NASA Texas ever signed off on TxMC, or are you guys running an unsanctioned "race" in the middle of their HPDE groups? Or is this only open to TT competitors?

It's open to anyone with a transponder and no more of a race than TT or HPDE4. We follow the rules in each group type, NASA is fully aware and from what I understand they think it's a great idea but since its not CMC/AI they have no interest in formalizing it...at least not while HPDE3/4 and TT are warm-up and brake bedding sessions for AI. I seriously doubt NASA wants to formalize and run the class, but if we get enough people to show up they might.

True story: I lost almost all of my motivation to finish my car, so I'd be shocked if I even bother with it again until April 2011. To be honest, the thought of track days is my only real motivation to finish the car, but it's been so long that I did a track day that I "forget" how fun they are.

True story x2: It's been way too long since I've done a track day (especially since I've done a Texas track), so I wouldn't be the least bit competitive. I would love to say that 2011 would be my "get back into it" year, then I'd be ready to go for 2012.

Sob story: My girlfriend starts her master's program this year. I will be the only one supporting us (trying to not do school loans) for the next three years. I am a full time student as well. So the money that would/could/should go to track days will most likely be going towards something stupid like electricity or water. And as lame as it is to say, being a full time engineering student and working 40 hours a week takes a bit of time.
