    Default Police chase fail

Hmm... Dallas cops in trouble for beating motorcyclist during arrest.

Apparently the guy "riding" (I think my mom could ride a bike better than that) the motorcycle was charged with three traffic warrants, evading arrest, resisting arrest, and possession of marijuana after his arrest.

While I'm not exactly for random beat downs by the police, this idiot seems to have deserved what he got. Maybe next time they should drag the perp off camera before delivering a little street justice?

Why don't they position the cop car so ya can't see the beat-down on the dash cam wouldn't that solve a lot of the issues??

The guy on the bike deserved a quick, painless death related to fleeing the police, not the sanctioned beating. I think the charge of "misdemeanor" assault is a little light. That's a felony beating.

No they should've just slowly chased him and let him kill himself on the motorcycle. That guy had no riding skills at all.

    Yes the cops were wrong.

Probably the same a-holes that harassed Mike.

Dash cams are amazingly easy-to-forget, apparently, or they figure that no one will review the tape. I love that a second dash cam captured another officer repositioning the first one mid-beating so it wouldn't show everything! Coverup Fail!

If this guy deserved a beating for a couple of warrants and possession, what do you think the individual who left that 2 year old to bake to death in a school van today deserves?

This is what your tazer is for............just saying. It's things like this that destroy the public's trust and respect for police officers everywhere. Did the guy deserve it? Yeah probably but that's not what cops do they are sopoused to be professionals NOT jackbooted SS thugs out to beat people down, because they got pissed at them. That is not the sign of a professional by any means.

Agree on the first count. I only see 3 problem swings. The rest are probably a good idea and/or in response to what the "rider" was doing. Misdemeanor is probably the right call.

I can't condone any cop beating anyone. The guy was wrong to run, but he does have rights. Lets not put all police in the same clas as these "bad apples". Lets not forget that the first people that we call when theres trouble is the police. They risk their lifes every time they hit the streets.

Crap like that that happens like that in Maryland almost daily but at least the cops there are smart enough to pull the person behind or on the side of the cruiser.

+1 The rider was wrong. He can't ride a motocycle worth a darn, and finally gave up. Police should simply arrest him... there is absolutely no call for the beating. I understand they were frustrated, but cops cannot ever be allowed handle a situation like this by beating someone already on the ground. They must be held to a higher standard.

    <cynical rant>
Color me cynical, but I think we should, in fact, hold cops to a higher standard, now that we have video monitoring. It's a real simple standard. Run from the cops, get beaten by the cops. These guys don't get a free ticket, since we haven't implemented the new rules yet, though. But, I think, going forward, it's a great plan. Now, it will require a cut back in donut eating, since there'll be less exercise, so that would be a downside.

And the media buy-in to warn the criminals who don't pay attention would be good for the economy. Think of the billboards! The super bowl ads! Forget click it or ticket!

It'll be "Stop when told, or get the ass kicking you deserve." Well... maybe that doesn't have a great ring to it. I'm sure they'll come up with something.

that's what you get when you don't know how to find 1st gear on a stolen bike.

My brother is a cop in Las Vegas. Works some of the WORST areas of that city. He's chased drug dealers, pulled people out of houses at gunpoint, broken up gangs, etc, countless times.

I sent him a link to the video, along with the following info. "The officers were disobeying policy by chasing, they were told to stop the pursuit, and didn't and another officer turned the camera"

His response was basically..they are dumarses and let their egos get the best of them and get what they deserve, as soon as they violated policy they were in the wrong.

Of course he used a bit more colorful language to describe their behavior than I can use here.

I say GOOD FOR THEM. I think they should be allowed to use deadly force as soon as you run. You endanger EVERYONE when you flee the police, and you are showing a blatant disregard for law enforcement. Like others have said, police put their lives on the line to keep us safe. They are the ones that keep society ordered, and when you disregard that, you have no place in our society. I think he got off too easy if he isn't permanently disabled and eating his food through a straw the rest of his life.
Wealth, power, and experience are apparently not enough to save us from social influences. Groupthink, as described by I.L.Janis, is the tendency for group members to reach a consensus opinion, even if that decision is downright stupid (Janis 1982).

And when the police disregard the law they are just as bad, if not worse, than those that flee.

Our country was founded on freedom from oppression. The intent was to prevent abuses by those in a position of authority, and advocating the police should be able to proivde a beat down any time you break a law goes against that whole concept.
