Default Should I remove my style bar?

I just got a style bar yesterday and ever since then, almost everyone has been telling me I should take it off.

I really like it but I keep hearing nothing but negative things about these things. Is it more trouble than it's worth?

well since it's worth 0... and trouble is more than it's worth.

The worst case is they can act like a mouse trap in a rollover accident.

Dangerous... unless you're eating Nolan's Cheddar...

Yes. The thought is if you roll, you will have something that could squish you, while still having no rollover protection. But if you drive like an old lady, there's much more dangerous things you could do (license plate on the dashboard, etc etc). If you like it and only really use the car to go get groceries, might as well leave it and just deal with catching crap from people for it.

I'd keep it unless you are getting a roll bar. Looks good and adds some protection for side impacts. Adds some rigidity to the chassis as well. So it is functional.

    No roll bar

A little note on this last car. I know the guy who rolled it. He walked away. The car was even repaired. The roll bar was sold to another friend who worked for Boeing. She had it scanned for stress fractures it was structurally sound. She had the bar stripped and powder coated and installed in her Miata.

How much is your life worth? I know mine is worth more than the cost of a new roll bar.

What if you get t-boned and roll? Will the style-bar know the difference?

    Yes. They are very discriminate.

(and it wasn't obvious, my original comment was rather sarcastic)

It seems as if everyone on the pointy board loves their style bars!!!

Isn't the function of the bar in it's title? "Style" bar...vs. "Roll" bar...

pretty simple really, I don't understand how someone can claim that a style bar will protect you more in the instance of a roll over than a roll bar?

Do whatever you want Matt, I'm not a big fan of the way Style bars look unless its on a 1994 or newer Rag-top Mustang. But I don't see you trying to flip your Na and test the durability of the bar either. i think it looks good with the pearl paint and Nb wheels. Just dont spend too much time on M.net or you'll end up with a Luggage rack and grille

I had no idea the style bar was so dangerous in the event of a roll. I just thought it was be useless.

Matt I get nothing but compliments when I have my top off. The amount of non-car people I encounter that compliment my Miata surprises me, and a lot specifically like the style bar. Car people have always told me to take it off as well. I'm not the biggest fan of style bars but I certainly don't think they look bad.

Of course, I'd much rather have a roll bar. I'd ditch my style bar in a heartbeat.

Personally, I would remove the style-bar and install a roll-bar with proper padding.
