Daily Driving Tires?

I have the 16 inch all season Khumos. They stick pretty well in wet or dry unless you, ahem, over inflate them. got the car in a wicked double ground loop last week after driving through an s curve on ramp on damp pavement. Luckily, I didnt hit anything as it was 5 am. I have been running around with 35 psi in tires. think I'll take them down to 30 psi cold. Anyone got a better set up for tire pressure?

I have the Ecsta ASTs right now and in the dry I run 35 to 40, but in the wet they're known for letting the back end kick out. I just pay attention better in the rain cause I love drifting but it would be nice to not worry.

I'm gonna try the Ecsta ASXs next before I go to Star Specs. These Kumhos require more pressure to keep from rolling onto the sidewall but are ok for street use at 30. I only run high pressure cause I drive like a mad man

The ASX's really sucked on wet roads at normal PSI's. I did not like the grip on dry pavement either, but wet roads made the car want to hydroplane. These were the worst tires I have had on the car so far.

Others were Stock Toyo's, I think R28's and Goodyear GTHR's. The GTHR's give a much better grip than my Kumho's ever thought about, too bad they quit making them.

I love my Yokohama S-Drives. Great on the street and they have been a good starting tire for the track (I've done two events on them with a third coming up).

225/50/zr/16. 35psi.
Mounted at 61k in July 2010 on my Z4 2.5i base that is now at 78k. Rotated at 6k but cannot be rotated again due to the rears are below the wear bars. No track days or autocross just daily long commute down I20 and some backroads and I got less than 20k out of them. They did well in the wet and a few mornings below 37 degrees did well also. Very smooth and quiet when corning hard on hot pavement. I felt pretty secure and confident with them but am extremely disappointed in their short life. When purchased with replacement certificates I was told to expect 35 to 40k but when I returned to have the rotation I was told there was no mileage warranty on these tires due to aspect ratio and no rotation due to the bald rears.

Next up for me is Continental ExtremeContact DWS 225/50/zr/16. 560 a a. I have read several reviews that praise these in the wet and beat much more expensive tires consistantly in tests. They do have mileage warranty at 50k. I will try and give a review of these over time.

Hankook V4 ES H105 420 A A look good also at $74 each and have a $40 rebate going now on a set of 4 but have no tread warranty like the Goodrich's.

I am considering upgrading from my Z4's 16's to staggered 17's. Front 17x8 +47 225/45/17, rear 17x8 +50 255/45/17 I will start my own thread about that later.

Have you ever made a claim on a treadlife warrenty? Most are worthless at best. Same with road hazzard.

They mark the tire price to it's full retail value and then tell you, "well Mr. Bill, you've got 18k mile out of this tire and it has a 50K mile warrenty. Our retail price is $230 per tire. Since you only put a 1/3 of the mileage your cost will be $85 plus an extra $15 mounting and balancing fee and then we'll tack on another $10 for the road hazzard fee."

Sorry, just had to rant. I just had a road hazzard warrenty where they tried to charge me more for the tire than I purchased it for. They gave me a tire that has a shorter treadlife than the remaining 3 tires have left on them and told me they quit making that size tire all together and I am getting the last one in the area. Then they could'nt understand why I did'nt want to buy the road hazzard warrenty on the new tire. I am through with Goodyear!

Put the Continentals on the Z4 last night. I did manage to get a treadlife adjustment. $25 for each of the fronts and $20 for each of the rears. They price matched the lowest price with shipping I found online at $114 each and mounted/balanced at $5 off usual price and payed no disposal fees. I did not get certificates so the total was $464.
I did however find this afternoon, my fancy metal valves and caps have been replaced with cheap rubber valves and caps. After I even told them I wanted the new reuseable metal ones reused. My guess is some kid pocketed them. GRRRR

I will try to review the tires after each 6k.
