Can you flat tow a Miata?

I'm going to pickup the red car today, maybe. Can you "flat tow" a miata on a car dolly without having to remove the driveshaft? Removing the shaft is not a big of deal, I just don't want to have to waller on the ground.

Per the board:

If you are considering crawling under the car to disconnect and reconnect the speedometer, a better idea would be to take a wrench with you, unbolt the rear flange of the driveshaft, and zip-tie the driveshaft to the PPF.

This solves the speedometer issue with leaving a hole in the transmission and will ensure no problems with the transmission oiling (no matter how small the chance of transmission damage may or may not be).

Thanks all, I was able to get it home last night. I wound up just renting a car hauler instead of a dolly. They, uhaul, said that an UNTAGED car would be illegal to tow.

this is partly true as 2 tires are running on the ground, but i have sen spec rx7's bumper towed without registration many times and no tickets.

man my wife kindof FREAKED out when I brought it home. So i've just left it alone so that I could spend more time with her than my cars.

Two weeks ago I spent the entire weekend working on the 1.8 conversion, the next we went out of town, so does that balance it out. NOT in a womans eyes. Then I went and picked up red, an all day deal. THis week end I'll really start to explore my red car.
