We do have the potential for a "photographer" as a work assignment, provided they are willing to do all the uploading and hosting of such a task. Yesterday's event had plenty of workers to cover all positions, so that would have been fine. sometimes we are stretched a lot thinner, and it would be harder to justify. As long as attendance stays up, it is realistic.

As for the Scissor lift, you might read up on the story about the football videographer killed on one during high winds (like yesterday)...

Seriously, thats a significant expense for an event that only breaks-even when we fill-up 50 spots, and involves more logistics and workers than we can likely dedicate for a smaller club. Then there is timing equipment to purchase.. :) Also, it DOES add another insurance/liability element, people wanting to climb on and shoot their OWN pictures, etc. I'd suggest just parking a van or pickup in a good spot and standing on the roof.

We've had people offer to shoot pictures before, but they don't show-up consistently, and it would really be best to make it a permanent work assignment for a season. If you think you might be that person, pm me or JRJ512 and maybe we can come to an "arrangement" you'd like.

Yikes, didn't even think about that! I'm used to seeing them inside a nice low-wind airplane factory.

Re. a designated photographer, I have neither the equipment or expertise to make it worthwhile. Hell, yesterday I couldn't even remember to bring the memory card for the camera I do have.

As far a a "full" time photographer at all events, IMHO, would be a waste of time. How many pictures do you need of you auto crossing? One, maybe two? As a photographer it would not be worth my time (for the money that you could make) to go to all events. That's why mine are FREE!

Back in the mid to late 80's I was flag and communication certified through the SCCA and I could go just about anywhere on the track that I wanted (with a spotter). I went to all of the big races, took lots of pictures and made a little money. The winning drive would ALWAYS buy a picture of him wining. But in AX there is no checked flag, pretty girls, and champaign.
Hmm what is decent? Are we talking about your decent or my decent? I'm just curious because I don't want to offend anyone else's decent...

At PMS you have a much safer photo spot at the top of the stadium. Just need a longer lense...

In-car video shows you what you are doing just fine if you position the camera right.

Much cheaper to chip in on a video than to buy a new camera and mount.

I totally agree, but that is not what was being discussed.

How is it not what was being discussed?

Quote from first post to talk about photographer/videographer: "Combine in-car video with aerial video (this weekend, Corner 1 would have been a good spot) and you can really tell where you're screwing up."

I think I addressed his post directly. You just didn't read everything. I agreed with what POS Racing said and expanded on his response. Simple communication I thought.

20' scissor-lift, 3'x8' platform, $120/day rental. I'd pay an extra few bucks at registration for video of my runs. Combine in-car video with aerial video (this weekend, Corner 1 would have been a good spot) and you can really tell where you're screwing up.

I'd imagine there'd be some safety/insurance issues to iron out, but does anyone else see any value in it?
    Like this?

    Thanks Dennis (RIP).

While you are 100% correct, it isn't worth arguing about.

Yep seems to me as if you were doing a fine job giving and alternative method that would work at any venue.

Photos of you car at events can be very helpful in tuning though. Sometimes it is nice to have an outside image showing body roll etc.... However, I don't think I would really want to pay extra for it. I think the work assignment would be a better option.

Great course and even greater people!

here is the link to the pictures I took Sunday.

I didn't get the panning background ... pushed the ISO and shutter speed up ...

Contact me if you want full sized or other shots of your car (in this group) ... I shot about 250 of this portion of the Class 2 and S2Ks.

    I'd shoot/post/host as a work assignment. Spotter please. :)
