Thread: Fan delete?

    Default Fan delete?

If I do a fan delete and switch from a mechanical fan to an electric fan what class do that make me in SCCA? Still ST or SP?
    M3 is always the answer.

Pretty sure that bumps you out of any ST class. I'll look up the SP rules...

Don't think you can change the fans in SP, either. I know you can't change the radiator. Probably land you in SM or XP/FP.

I found this in the SP section of the SCCA Solo Rules Book.

15.10.M. The engine fan and fan shroud (unless it serves another purpose,
e.g., as an alternator/generator mount) may be removed, modified
or replaced. Electrically driven fans are allowed. Flex fans are not
    allowed.

I could not find any mention of engine fans in the ST section (14).
On the track, I am fearless.
If you were as slow as me, you wouldn't be afraid either.

That's what I found. Looks like bumps me out of ST and into SP.
    No radiator swap in SP?

No, unless it's changed in the last few years. I wanted to add a bigger radiator to my ASP RX7 years ago, but it was verboten.

I'm pretty sure you can run anything you want in any class you want, so long as its just a "local event." Besides, who knows enough about M3's to protest you?? :)

I think you can run a different radiator in SP only if it has the same volume of a stock radiator. In other words, it would weigh the same +/-

I wired my fans so I can switch them on manually. The OEM computer still controls them, also.
