Easy window tint removal

I needed to remove the window tint from my son's Civic because the tint was bubbled on the back window after 12 years. I called Earmark in Plano and they wanted $180 to remove JUST the tint on the rear window. Being TCB, I decided to search the internet for the easiest way to get the tint off. I saw a post about using a fabric steamer and found this one at Wally World. It worked pretty well, but I found that if you heavily sprayed the tint with Windex (with Ammonia-D) and waited 5-10 minutes and then used the steamer the tint would come off easily. I spent several hours on the back window and about 45 minutes doing the other 4 windows after learning this technique.

good to know! i have some crappy limo tint on my hard top (no heat reduction) that i need to remove.

I have always just gotten a glass scraper and a bottle of amonia with a sponge.

Rip the tint off and remove the residue with the razor scraper and amonia. Use the amonia on the back glass where the heat strips are.
It takes me less than 30 minutes to get it off.

Acetone or mineral spirits work well to remove the adhesive too.

Using the Windex and steamer together removes the tint AND the adhesive together. My four side windows were perfectly clean when the tint was removed (no scraping). I also found that if I held the steamer under the tint while I was peeling it down it came off super easy.
