Maybe you can use the old switch as a blank and put a toggle switch thru it. Is it just 2-wires behind it?
After reading loits of info on miata.net and elsewhere about typical rear defroster switch setups for NAs my 95 apparently isnt typical. Mine has fog lights and the switch for that apparently is in the spot where a typical NA would have the defrost switch, on the left side of the steering wheel where the cruise and light dimmer control is. Instead, the original owner installed some flat type of touch switch. See attachment. It doesnt really feel like you can push it. Almost like it would just sense body heat as you touched it in order to do the switching. Well, it is malfuntioning in that you have to really jack with it to turn it on and off. It isnt wired through the ignition meaning that it will turn on and off without the key even being on. My question is, does anyone know where I can buy a new switch like this?

I meant to add to my original post that there is a 4 wire ribbon cable that connects to the back of this switch.
Looks like it might be best to just get the dual fog light/defroster switch and wire this all up as intended.
Sorry to drag this all back up again. But, I finally found the switch I was looking for.

I'm not real sure what the original owner of my '95 was attempting with all of this. I have some days off over the holidays and will dig around and see where it is all going. I havent found this timer on my car yet. There is a typical/standard way the defroster is supposed to wire in and be controlled for a Miata. Doesn't appear the original owner of mine followed that path.
