Is the header still in? I messed with mine for 2 hours before pulling the header. 10 minutes later it was done and I was putting the header back on.
Can someone tell me the secret of getting the driver's side engine mount out? I have all the bolts out, but cannot find a way to get the mount out. I have the passenger side already out and back in with the new mount.
TIA

...or get someone to pull the engine over to the passenger side. More room. Are you lifting the engine with a jack? Can you raise it some more? I agree a header out of the way helps but is not always easy to do if you have a supercharger or turbo.
I have had to separate the mount inside the engine bay to get it out and reassemble it in reverse. Major PITA.
I'm working by my self, so I'll have to come up with another way to pull the engine over. I am lifting the engine with a jack and the coil pack is just about against the firewall.
I'll try a little more lifting and a little pulling first, before I pull the header. Titus, did you pull the header out of the car or just loosen it and leave it in the car?

Is the problem that the engine mount is stuck in place or is it that you can't maneuver the engine mount out of the engine bay?
I actually got the old one out without removing the header, but it was split in half so I was able to remove it in 2 pieces. It was getting the new one in that I could not do. Having to remove the supercharger in order to remove the header is what drove me to continue trying futilely for so long. Eventually I pulled the supercharger and header completely out.
Damn, I just now noticed that I posted this in the FI section. My car is not FI. If a mod could move this out of the FI section, I would be grateful.
I have the mount loose and in two pieces. The smaller piece is out but I can't find a way, yet, to get the larger piece out. And, then I'll have to find a way to get the whole mount back in.
I was thinking about a fence stretcher.

Remove the passenger side mount. Loosen driver's side mount. Jack up and push the engine over to the right (you can't really rotate it). Remove driver's side mount. Install new driver's side mount. Move engine back into place and install passenger side mount. Finish installing lower fasteners and put engine in final position. Tighten lower fasteners.
It's a bitch. Much easier to do it with the exhaust off, but not impossible. Easier to do the driver's side when the passenger's side is removed completely.
Use a come-a-long?

/\ what modern beat said!!
It's done.
I did not have to loosen or remove the header. I used a come-a-long and did it backwards from what modernbeat said. Next time I'll know. (IF I can remember.)![]()
I have spent most of two days changing thoseengine mounts. But, both were torn. Although, I may have torn them when I removed them with my poor technique.
Next time I'll know, or have I said that already.![]()
