Default What to do with a wrecked old car?

    Hi all,

The girlfriend wrecked my dad's old civic on Wednesday, since we only have liability insurance we need a way to get rid of the car.

The car is still drivable, it lost its front bumper, corner lights, tore bumper supports, a dent on the fender. It's a one owner 92 Civic LX with an auto, the car drives excellent before the accident.

Is the easiest way sell the car on Craigslist?

    TIA,

    Alan

Donate it if you can still write it off (I have heard there are some limitations) or put that puppy on Craigslist and it will be gone.

How many miles are on it?....I might be interested

The car has 170k miles, run strong with cold a/c.

The mechanic neighbor is buying it for $500, he's gonna try to fix it up and DD it.

IIRC, the laws have changed to close the tax loophole that was there. There was a time that you donate it, and then you could use an inflated value like that in KBB as the donation amount. Now, I believe you get a statement from the charity on what they are able to auction it for, and that is what you have to use on your taxes. Bottom line, donate if you want to be charitable and believe in the charity, but don't think for a second that you will be better off financially than if you sold it on Craigslist.

Dang, guess I'm too late for the party. I'm in the market for a cheap daily. Let me know if your neighbor backs out.
