Thread: Pictures of the damage from my wreck

Default Pictures of the damage from my wreck

Here are the nasty details as well as what the Service King rep had to say:

" It has sustained some fairly severe structural damage. I will definitely require a left apron assembly and possibly a lower frame rail. I couldn’t see how much damage the engine had sustained at this time. I would need to cut the hood open, and the insurance company needs to be able to take their photos of the car before I alter the structure. "

This fix is going to take a while, so consider that if it's your only transportation while you decide what to do.

That's my big conundrum. My wife has her Jeep but the Miata was my daily driver. We work on opposite ends of the Metro-mess. I can ride the train over to Dallas, then light rail up to Richardson but that is a major PITA. I might have to suck it up and accept their total loss check and go buy something else. Hate the thought of car payments and there is no way I can buy anything as reliable for what they will give me.

You might want to get that Hardtop off it and in your garage ASAP... if they total it, you don't want insurance walking off with it.

Sorry about the crash but glad no injuries to you. I'm no estimator but it looks like it's totaled. I got rear ended in my previous one and very little visible damage. Service King said the frame was bent..that's all she wrote...you know the rest of the story.

I hope you have better luck!

Sad to see. Third picture makes it look like the Miata got beat up really bad and has a swollen shut eye and a loose tooth.

    Kinda like this guy...

Who is your insurance company? Put the car in your garage now, or maybe even get a storage room and stick the car in there.

I recommend you find 5-comparable cars in the area to make a claim with the insurance company. You can make the claim with our without the hardtop based upon what you find on Craigslist or Ebay.

Then, with the car in your garage, accept the settlement at the "replacement value", less the salvage value which is roughly $800, and then part out the old car. You will probably come out ahead and I'll buy the black interior.

Remember that you own the car and that you have not agreed to a settlement or title transfer until you sign papers or endorse a check from the insurance company specifically noting that you accept replacement value over the more expensive alternative.

    ^^^^^ THIS! ++++++

Also, if you decide to total it, *ANY* extras you have on the car "do not add value" to the car (according to the ins. co.) so they do not subtract value if you remove them and sell them. For example, your car has wheels and tires, yes, but any wheels and tires will do. Swap somebody for steelies with bald tires for $200 and pocket the cash. Hardtop stays with you, that's a given (and $1000). If the car is going to the junkyard, make sure anything of value doesn't go with it.

If you decide to take a total check and not repair the car, please contact me about buying the salvage. I'd be interested in possibly making a track toy out of it.

Needing core support & apron with a possible side member... I would say it's a write off. Start shopping for a new car.

Well, I just got off the phone with the total loss department from USAA. I have to say that I am just absolutely stunned. She explained how they determine to declare total loss. They basically put a valuation on the car. If the repairs equal between like 60% and 74% of the value they place on the car, they declare total loss. She said that after calculating everything including tt&L and subtracting the $500 deductible they will pay me $5096 and change. I'm floored. I was totally expecting to hear something like $2000-$2500. I'm just stunned they are paying that much.

After the wreck I kept wanting to wake up and it just be a bad dream. Now, I'm afraid to go to sleep and wake up to discover they changed their minds.

You have no idea just how much this good news was needed right now. I wont go into details, but just say that it really made a rough day end on a much higher note. My policy allows for rental car as well and gives a max daily of $30 and since my car was a total loss I am automatically given 14 days. They use Enterprise and I also get a special reduced rate. I think I can get something along the lines of a Ford Fusion size vehicle for about $25 a day.
